Is it just my imagination or do many Jewish people have some sort of weird complex

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just my imagination? I started noticing it after I saw the Seinfeld episode where uncle Leo thinks everyone is an anti-semite.

It just strikes me as odd since I haven't seen it to a noticeable extent in any other culture. Anyone care to comment?

Actually, many people/countries/religions have gone through some horrible series of atrocities - the crusades, the American natives, Communist China, Stalinism, the Mideast and Atlantic slave trade, various civil wars, etc. That's not to diminish the horror of the holocaust, of course.

Thoughout time, I'd have to say yes, "every race/religion" did go through some "type" of Holocaust IMO. Although in modern times, Holocaust is a word used to define the killing of Jews by the Nazis in WWII, the word Holocaust holds other older meanings such as:

i think you misunderstood the OP. ANYTHING you say about the jews is somehow anti-semetic. I'll agree with that. An example was The Passion of the Christ. People thought that was anti-semetic, which was purely bullsh!t. I do notice that if you make any general statement about Jewish people (or at least the ones I've been around with) they'll cry anti-semetism, and it will seem very taboo. Nothing can be said about Jews publicly, but calling Muslims terrorists in the media isn't taboo. Persoanlly, I feel people can't say anything negative of Jews in the media, because Jewish people hold very high positions in the media (Spielberg, Katzenberg are 2 out of 3 people in Dreamworks.)

My favorite story on this topic is when my ex-husband's brother had a big party on a Sunday, and there was horrible traffic on the George Washington Bridge so that several people were late.

Their comments: "THey deliberately decided to do construction today because we're Jewish and they hate us." And they were serious.

It isn't just religious folk who think that way. Back on the farm, the relatives used to blame everything on the Gub-mint. It's convenient to have something to blame all the ills of the world on.

I was called anti-semitic by some dumb broad on campus because I said recognizing holidays of the Jews is a little unbalanced (towards the other religious groups at the school).

Though I wouldn't say its reflective of Jews as a whole group. Only the extreme and orthodox ones seem to be like that. If you talk to non-practicing ones (which there are a large percentage of here) they rarely talk about stuff like that.

I think its because 90% of the time I hear the word Jew or Jewish, it was said with a negative connotation. I dont believe that its Jewish people that have a wierd complex. It's because people dont realize that small stuff like what they are saying may be seen as offensive to someone even though the person saying the comment had no idea it would do that. Think of when someone posts on here and says "Some Mexican hit me ". It doesnt seem like it would offend anyone, even if the person involved was a Mexican, but some people see it as being offensive. I think thats just how society has became.

wfbberzerker, you are right about Jews being put down for hundreds or thousands of years. But really Jews have been persecuted by atleast one group of people since their existence. There wasn't a time when Jews were not persecuted or discriminated. How can resentment toward a "Jew comment" not have been built up after over 5700 years?

RaynorWolfcastle, I cannot believe you would post something like this on the holiest day for Jews. Yom Kippur started last night and just for starting this thread on this day I find it to be offensive. How would you like it when your religion has been actively persecuted for over 5700 years and when someone outside of your religion says the name of your religion and it has a negative connotation to it 75% of the time???

How does your school recognize the Jewish holidays? Are no classes held?

What school recognizes Jewish holidays? And how was it recognized? Was it "today we will learn about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and celebrate it by not having class tomorrow" or "tomorrow is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is there anyone who will not be in class to observe this holiday?"

To prove my point before you answer my question....the reason I ask is because in Cali (dont know where your school is) a student who is absent due to the observance of a religous holiday (for ANY religion) has to have the opportunity to make up tests/quizzes/exams on another day and turnin/do work that was completed on that day. If it was the latter of what I said above, then the professor/teacher or whatever just wants to get an idea of who will get gone from class that day. If it is the former of what I said above, then your school must have a large enough Jewish population to warrant it.

Oh noessSS!!1! The Jewish media conspiracy! I was wondering how long it'd take for someone to bring that up. (I find it especially humous considering you only think 3 people work for Dreamworks AND that Dreamworks makes up any sort of significant part of the media.)

Anyway, if that's how you feel about Jews, then you obviously don't know very many. I'm not saying that there aren't ones that do feel this way (because there are and I've found that they are generally the older ones) but you guys are saying ALL Jews feel this way and that's just ridiculous.
