I just got Ubuntu working on my lappy, and yes, that includes wifi. I found out that Evolution can handle Groupwise, what we use at work, and I got gdesklets working...Bittorrent runs so much better, too...Dang, it's sweet...

Linux is a mean, lean OS. :)

I'm playing with a couple distros on my virtual machine right now, Centos, Debian, and RHEL.

I HATE it. I'm using it right now cuz I'm having some issues with Windows, and I gotta say....it sucks, a lot.

Oh, I like scantily clad women, I just wonder how well that would be at work...

I only keep one Windows box in my office, and that is only because I have to support Windows users. (plus RDP > VNC for when I've gotta work on a 2k3 box)

Yeah, I took in one of my home builds and use it at work...for some reason, Ubuntu can't seem to get the package manager to work at work...I don't know if it's a firewall thing, but t works fine here at home...I mainly do Novell client (for network drives and ZenWorks), Groupwise, and RDP...That and I have to show people how to do stuff, and they just don't get linux...

Just wait till you actually start using it...

try this:
open evolution, copy something from an email and paste it into firefox address bar

or

Plug in your external firewire drive / non-usb-mass digital camera. Let me know in couple hours how far you've progressed.

2. cut fimware from .sys file
3. Reboot
4. ...
5. Profit! (with wifi!)

I hit enter and it went to the evolution home page...mainly because the only email I have right now is the one saying "Welcome to Evolution!"

Never really cared for Linux... I spent too much time fiddling and trying to make it just right and it never happened. I also never got used to using the GIMP in place of Photoshop, and I could never get my wireless network to work correctly. Oh well, to each his own I suppose.

There ARE more background choices than scantily clad women, or the Apple desktop.

Not just you... just you and a bunch of other nerds. I've never liked linux as a desktop OS. There's nothing it can do for me that Windows cannot, but there are things Windows can do for me (or do better) that Linux cannot. When I used linux as a desktop OS, I always found myself settling.
