Is it just me....

I never forget the face of a person I meet. If I meet you, I may not remember your name, but I will remember your face.
Except when it comes to african americans. I can meet you, shake your hand, introduce myself..etc..etc..
But if I ever meet you again I won't remember your face or your name. It takes many times before I can recognize most african americans. Something doesn't register when I see a black guy or girls face.
It doesn't make any sense to me, and it cannot be normal.
Anyone else have this problem?

I don't think that is abnormal.

I have the same problem with oriental people...

I only have that problem with black people. It bothers me because I meet alot of people and I hate not being able to remember them.

Don't worry.

Most westerns / whites can't tell, for instance, asians from one another. When I was in Germany last year studying, I had a Japanese roommate I was very good friends with. I could recognize him. of course, but whenever he'd introduce me to his other japanese friends, I had a very hard time telling them apart and remembering their faces.

But don't feel bad; it also works the other way around. All whites look the same to them. They had the exact same problems with germans. 😀

It's nice to see there are still people like you who refer to asians as orientals. We're making great progress.

What's the big deal?

if its not someone i see a lot, i forget their name and i really hate that.
for instance, here at work the same 2 guys from the phone company come in a lot. i can remember the one guy's name but not the other.

Not sure if it's abnormal or not, but I'll throw in my experience and that is that I have no problem with "telling people apart" regardless of which ethnic heritage they come from.

Maybe being in CA helps.

I'm pretty sure it's because you look for differences to identify someone, is you see one black guy and 40 white people, you don't look for details like you do with the white people because that one difference is enough. The more you're around a certain race, the less of a problem it will be.

Personally, I'm really bad with names and faces of all races. I'm good with cars and numbers though...

I used to have a problem telling asian folks apart but I've gotten better at it. As Hero said, being in CA helps.

I was in a jury once and the defense brought this professor who testified how white people can't properly identify blacks. The problem was that the guy who got robbed by the defendant was Indian who lived in Jamaica the first half of his life, and subsequently works in the recording industry (mostly Raggae).

Can we get over the politically correct BS already?!?
I'm from Central America. People can call me Hispanic, Central America, Latino, etc. What's the big deal? My wife is Vietnamese and I call her oriental. Does she care? no. Does that make me racist? Someone please explain to me what is so bad about this word....
