Is it just me...

I mean instead of a linear thread-like conversation, you have crap everywhere, and it just shows up as a huge mess of headings...all the old system lacked was a way to get rid of the 'first post' and soviet russia junkies.

Just my humble opinion 😱

and how come you can comment when you're on vacation? 😕

I believe they're referring to the main AT site. Users can comment on articles there.

actually, the comments are threaded. linear is not threaded. the forums are a mess to read in comparison.

I agree. I like the new comments system.

I still disagree...it's much easier imo to read a succession of comments that are laid out one below the other, rather than a page of funny little headings that you have to click on to see each one 😛

And nobody has told me why i could comment while i was on vacation 🙁

while it is the same login, i imagine that fusetalk banage (for the forums) doesn't flag the comments system

it still looks awful, but then, nothing has changed (except i can actually understand the simplified rating system now 😉)...

The threading and linear debate is years old. Some hate threading some love it, it really depends on the person. The comments were made threading from requests, and higher up. I agree that threading is a confusing mess, it depends on how you like to read things. Its a very personal thing, that's for sure. We've had a tonne of good feedback on how comments are, and some bad. Much more positive than negative so I doubt it will change anytime soon.

My only real complaint with the comment section is you have to go to a new page to view the comments. Couldn't they just be on the same page like they used to be (at least for the news stuff)?

We've covered this one before. Reason they are in a window is simple (space). We'd have to ditch a column at least to put it inline, there is barely 520 pixels of space between the two columns.

no worries 😉

it's a pity, because now i don't even bother checking them, since it's two extra clicks just to see them...
