Is it just me? What's up with Queen Amidala?

How come in Episode One, Queen Amidala has an English accent, and in Episode Two she doesn't? What's up with that? Is it because she became a Senator? That's so weird....

I didn't really notice that much of a difference. But if there was one, I would imagine it would be due to the formality of each respective position.

edit: spelling

I wondered about that! But I only saw Episode 1 once and it was a while ago, so I thought I misremembered.

Her Voice?? You watched this movie and all you noticed was that her VOICE changed???

Said it when I saw her in The Professional,
Said it again when I saw her in Beautiful Girls.
Natalie Portman will be the 2nd coming of Audry Hepburn.

Yeah, now there's a beauty. None of that sack of bones BS "babes" we see so often around here. She's got a nice voice to go with her attractive physical aspect.

and that britney spears outfit she was wearing the last part of the movie... :p

whats up with her falling out of the aircraft thingy, laying on the sand for like 10 minutes, and as soon as a storm trooper comes over she bounces up and says "i'm fine"?

I'm pretty sure the accent was part of the role she was playing as Queen. She actually loses the accent in the middle of Episode One when she goes "incognito" as Padme.

She went from being an Imperial to a Rebel...
as long as she doesn't sound like Yoda, I think it's not distracting.

Oh, and I've found her to be less and less attractive as she gets older unlike some other young actresses.

Simple: In ep1 she was a queen. in ep2 she's a senator. I would guess that the royalty speak in a bit more old-fashioned and formal accent than standard politicians do.

As several people have pointed out, it's related to her role as Queen.

I'm wondering if it's also a subtle extended in-joke for those who remember Grand Moff Tarkin's introduction to Princess Leia in Star Wars.
