Is it just me or radiohead is just boring

With all the hype, I decided to buy 5 of their most popular songs. I tried to appreciate the slow, repetitive, no-melody style last night. And I actually fell asleep before i finish the songs.

You think "National Anthem" is boring? Granted, much of their music is slower tempo or just soft and slow. If you don't like that type of music and the subtleties contained within, you'd probably think it's boring. Just a matter of personal taste, and everyone is different.

Radiohead are, IMO, the best band in the world, though their current material isn't my absolute favorite. I guess if you are coming from the current school of awful screaming-oriented FM rock you might find them uninteresting, however. Listen to OK Computer and see if you still find them dull.

Okay...here's how this works.

1) You bash a band (Radiohead in this case)

2) We say "oh yeah, well what do you like?"

3) You list bands you like

4) We have a long, pointless argument about the respective merits (or lack thereof) of the bands you listed vs. Radiohead.

5) Rinse and repeat.

Or you come from the decent world of non-mainstream 80's rock/metal that progressed and stayed (evolved) through the 90's, into a sound unaffected by modern day crappy rock/nu-metal, and of which the banner was taken up by new, non-mainstream, bands who stayed vaguely true to the original premise and sound of the music style, and weren't persuaded to join the dark side of mainstream bullshit.

I find Radiohead uninteresting.
I also despise screaming-oriented mainstream rock.

I've tried and tried to enjoy Radiohead, and I just can't. My room mate and a number of my friends LOVE them, but it's just not my thing. I won't argue that they aren't talented, because they most definitely are.. but there's just something about the music that really gets to me after awhile and I wanna put my head through a wall. 🙂

Of the 5 songs I own (paranoid android, no surprise, fake plastic trees, high and dry, street spirit). Only paraniod andriod seems a little interesting with that unique guitar tune. But I cannot agree that they're comparable to Pink Floyd. Yea, Pink Floyd is also slow, but other than that, they're in totally different levels.

Yeah, boring. Kid A and after was really dull. National Anthem and Optimistic is stuff you would expect from radiohead, but the other stuff puts me to sleep.

I just dont get how Radiohead gets so much publicity for the music they do now when bands like Air did it before Radiohead did. If radiohead did it better though, that is your opinion.

I think Noel Gallager (sp??) said it best about Radiohead after KID A:

"I liked Radiohead better - or Blur for that matter - when they were writing songs. Are they scared? Is it an artistic statement? Because it doesn't say f*ck all to me! 'Let's make some f*cking noises and call it art, that way we don't have to write an intro or a middle eight and can't be judged against anything...I love it"

Radiohead and Pink Floyd are somewhat similar in their musical styles. Just like PF, much of RH's work should be taken as entire albums. There are plenty of good songs from both bands that probably aren't that great to hear by themselves. Kid-A is a fantastic album, but few of the songs are something you'd put on for a friend and say, "This is awesome." Earlier RH was more rocking and straight forward. It was simpler music. Now, they are into making music in unconventional ways that stand as compositions rather than just songs. Many need the help of other songs to be understood. PF is also similar in this way.

To each their own. You don't have to like something b/c everyone else does. At least you heard it and said "It's boring" rather than "they suck."

Their new album is a bit less eccentric than Kid A and Amnesiac.

I didn't like them much until I had heard OK computer 2-3 times. I liked them even more upon reading the lyrics.

I like them because they actually try different things in their songs, and most of them have some form of melody. I also enjoy the lyrics because they all express something in a much less direct way than I am used to.

No Surprises is one of my favorites... if you don't like that one I don't know how anyone is going to convince you to like them.

Yea I was going to take that route, but I stopped myself. Hence, my post.

yeah, okc and httt are the best. kid a is good, but in a different way. amnesiac i don't like, it sounds like a load of kid a b sides (which it is imo)

Radiohead is a great band although I was a bit dissapointed with Kid A. Their earlier stuff is just fantastic. Pablo Honey is one of my favorite CDs ever.

I really dig some of their stuff, and I really don't like some of it.

They are definatly worlds better than most of the crap thats being released today.

I don't really like radiohead all that much. However, I do enjoy listening to Muse which has a very radiohead vibe. Kinda weird 🙂

You can't just buy 5 of their most popular songs and expect to get a good feeling for the band. You need to listen to whole albums. Also, the style of music ranges greatly from album to album.
