Is it just me or is the era of great sitcoms gone forever?

everything looks better in hindsight, when you only look back on the good tv shows and ignore all the crap that was on the air right along side them.

as a side note... roseanne was an amazing show but really jumped the shard towards the end. it lasted a couple seasons too long.

Two and a Half Men is decent also. So yes, there are a few good current ones. Surprised there's so many Raymond haters here.

I've been watching more TV lately. I used to never watch it or very rarely, except for movies. I don't know if I got bored with some of my other hobbies or what.

I like Raymond. King of Queens is pretty funny too. I love My Family on BBC America. That show is hilarious!

Would Monk and Psych be considered sitcoms? Those are still good and funny shows. I also like Burn Notice.

I also really like Dirty Jobs and I watch the History channel a lot.

The only shows I really try to catch are Psych and My Family, but if the others are on, I'll watch them as well.

Mmm Rescue Me, Always Sunny in Philly, Scrubs, E.R., House, I like these shows.

That's great and all, but what does this have to do with the thread topic? The OP is asking about sitcoms.

Well Sunny in Philly & Scrubs are both sitcoms.

At specific times, and if you wish to branch to a more broad definition you could maybe include the others.

Anyhow..

Sitcom: A Situational Comedy

If Scrubs is a sitcom, then Metallica is pop music. Why? Well, "pop" is a genre that was originally termed "popular", so if we want to be literal, any band or artist that hits the top 40 is pop.

Sitcom may be short for situational comedy, but what the OP is obviously referring to is a sitcom in the "classical" sense - a comedy show shot with multiple cameras on a set in front of a studio audience.

In any case, yeah, sitcoms seem to be on their way out. I like How I Met Your Mother, but there's really nothing else out there.

I was thinking, I can't think of a single sitcom currently producing new episodes, nor could I imagine any new sitcom in the near future, being anywhere near the quality of some of the greats from the 90's and early 00's, like Raymond, Seinfeld, Friends, Roseanne, Frasier, etc. Is this a normal up-down trend, and right now we're just on the down part, or is that era of television really over?

traditional family TV was discontinued at the same time the traditional family was...
now all thats left is rubbish.
