Is it just me or is the 3007WFP dropping in price

First it fell to 1900, then to like 1700, then 1600, and now it's at $1444USD.

1. Will it be sub-$1,000 by the time Vista comes out?

2. Have the issues that were in the first batch of 3007WFPs been fixed yet?

Man I'm just licking my chops waiting to get a hold of one of thems with Vista, DX10, and a quad core Kentsfield on it.

LCD's accross the board are getting cheaper. Look at any lcd, from 17 to 42 inches and they're all much cheaper than they were even 6 months ago. Seems like the manufacturing end of lcd's has really been stream-lined over the last few years.

You can find it for ~$1350 at "other" places. By teh beginning if next year, hopefully it will be even closer to the $1000 mark.

"Hooray for a Strong Euro and a Weak Dollar!!!!!!"

Not to get political, I was only joking.

But a strong Euro and a weak dollar would mean Europeans can buy American goods for cheaper, not more expensive, because one euro can buy MORE dollars. So you lose. So does Denmark. 😛

Hmm, once it gets below 1k USD, I'll have to seriously look at buying one. Then I'll just need a video card capable of gaming on the native res, somehow, I don't think my X1900XT is going to cut it.

I will buy one when DX10 comes out no matter what. I'm just hoping by then it will be closer to $1k.

Man it's going to be awesome.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just go for 32" LCD TV's? Then again those 30" dells have pretty massive resolutions.

I could also drive a Ford Crown Victoria. Yeah it would be big, but also a piece of crap.

Those cheap TV-quality LCDs are very poor quality for computer screens.

Yeah I was looking at the resolutions of most LCD TV's and they are about half of what the 3007WFP can do. So that pretty much answers my question.

Would be nice to have, but at that resolution I would have to buy a new video card just to game. 🙁

It's $2500 in the UK too. It'd be cheaper for me to buy from the US, pay for shipping and import tax than buy over here. :|

This monitor was $1499CAD 6 months ago, during a super sale week. Now,it's $1599CAD(if you call in).
I am surprised it's not going down in price. I've been eyeing this one for months.
I'd guess it's because there's no competition. Apple's version is a bit older with older specifications and more expensive. I don't see any other competitors.

re. Denmark prices - more likely due to import duties, luxury, VAT etc. taxes - that is the wonder of the Socialized economy for you - one is punished for being successful.

.bh.

Who was getting political?

I was just getting economical! I seriously wasn't intending to make a political statement at all. I get paid in dollars, so if anything I would prefer things to be the other way around...

And yes, strong euro, weak dollar means cheaper things for Europe ASSUMING things are sold for the same COST in both North America and Europe. But the strength of the Euro does a lot to push of the cost of living in Europe (well, western Europe), and right now i think it is actually a bit higher than in (most of) the USA, so goods (particularly luxury goods like 30" LCDs) can cost more...

EDIT: as usual edited for my horrible typing...

I think they probably lowered it due to the Apple 30'' which at a point was cheaper than the 3007WFP. + LCD panels are cheaper

Another way of looking at it is its cheaper to get a cheap economy ticket to the us, stay in a hotel a night, have the monitor delivered to the hotel and then come back.

I do realise that the VAT in the UK adds a fair old amount, but I do think Dell is taking the UK consumer for a ride, the same applies to the 20" and 24" displays as well.
