Is it just me or is it weird when people talk about their "spouse"?

It sounds weird- what's wrong with saying husband/wife? Normally the word "spouse" is only used in cases where the term needs to be neutral, or if you're gay and don't want people to know. In two threads today Bryophyte has referred to her "spouse".

I also use the word "sibling"...

Anyway, most people here are male. There's something about saying "husband" on here that bothers me, I don't know why. I guess it's that I don't like getting put into a category. "Wife" seems to be looked at as something inferior around here most of the time. Most situations don't really require gender to come into the topic anyway.

I ignore political correctness and refer to my wife as my wife. Spouse to me is the little pink or blue peg you plug into the little plastic car in "The Game Of Life".

I think you're better than most of us here because you actually make a daily USEFUL contribution with your birthday threads.

Yeah... I fail to see whats wrong with using "wife" or "husband". Using spouse is like using a non-gender specific term because you're afraid/ashamed of something?

You know, I think I'll stop using the term 'husband' on here altogether and stick with 'spouse' now that I know it bothers you. 😉

If you had multiple spouses, would they be spice? 😛

Bothers me more when people say "sporty" in reference to a car. Hell, sporty in reference to just about anything sounds pretty lame.

I didn't know you were a female 😛

That's exactly what I hear everytime I mention "my husband" on here. I don't hear that when I say "my spouse".

Edit: actually, what they usually say is "OMGWTF I thought Bryophyte was a dude!!!11!!!ONEONE!"

I use it sometimes, or the word "partner". As a support for gay privacy/rights, actually. I figure if I (and enough people) use the term then people won't automatically go witch-hunting every guy that says it. Of course, some people probably end up assuming I am a lesbian, but there's no harm in that.
