Is it just me or is Intel just stupid?

I just saw a commercial for intel. It said "The intel proccesor is being set free" and other crap. I thought well yeah must be for their new product names and crap but then I saw it was for a MAC!!! What are the smoking over there??? Are they trying to make microsoft hate them? Are they trying to make software devs hate them? I just don't understand. Can someone PLEASE explain why there acting like macs are better then our Uber SLIed 7800 PC's?

Mac owners have always tried to say that their computers were superior in every way, shape, and form than a PC. That's all that commercial is... just a continuation of that whole belief.

That belief was sort of true in the Windows 3.11 days, but now, nah.

Yes, but why would intel do this? they should know as we all know that pc's are better.

Other companies have deals with Intels competitors... sorry .. competitor* Why shouldnt Intel make some deals with microsofts competitor.

Because microsoft is a much more powerful force to be allied with, i mean i doubt microsoft is happy that intel says macs are better.

Intel wasn't happy about that commercial ... can't say I blame them. Typical Apple propaganda anyway.

That was put out by apple? i assumed intel would have to autherize...

oh yea, another thing: if amd's raping intel on the pc side, what options does intel have left? they have to go to mac

you didn't even mention the best part about that commercial - how they used the word "dull", but pronounced it a bit too similar to "dell"

To cater to Mac users, of course. PC users know AMD is better for most uses, anyway. 🙂

Not necessarily. A techie that I know informed me that his Intel Pentium 4 was faster then my Athlon 64 3500+ Venice because the Intel was running at a whopping 3 ghz vs the 2.2 of my chip.

Ugh...

AMD isn't raping intel, are you kidding? AMD is doing better compared to itself, but its marketshare is still something like 20%. So sure it grew like 1% (less? I forgot) in the past quarter or two, but whoopdeedo.

Not to mention that Intel's move to 65mm is about 1 cycle ahead of AMD, unless either/both experience more delays.

Don't get me wrong; I really like AMD & I've never bought an Intel CPU, but you have to look at this stuff realistically.

 I own four AMD cpu driven systems (X2 4400+ at 2640 (my baby), a Turion notebook, and two emachines left over from my business) currently but people need to examine market caps before gloating at AMD's 40 priceshare and believing they're "raping" Intel in the PC market. AMD has come up in the world but seriously  errr

I do believe Intel was very unhappy with the Apple ad from what I have read but Apple released the ad before telling Intel (apparently). Very interesting stuff and rather laughable. I guess claiming, the same X86 processor that was slower for years is now free to be faster on your O/S is sound logic if you are living in Appleland.

Edit: By processor I mean the general X86 architecture

This is old news. Supposedly, Intel did see a preview of the commercial but it was different.

intel is still the top selling graphics manufactuer in the world over ati and nvidia. and i think both combined?? not sure

No, something like half the market.

People on AT keep whining and moaning how Intel GMA sucks, but realistically they fail to think that most PC users don't game.

I figure that if MS is annoyed by the ad, they might team up with AMD for a big joint marketing campaign when Vista ships. If they are both smart, they'd capitalize on the fact that the architecture that Apple chose for their computers doesn't support 64-bit (forcing the the x86 versions of OS X to be 32-bit only for the forseeable future) and do a big ad blitz to convince people that if their computer doesn't have a 64-bit processor and OS, then it's such a piece of junk that a ferret wouldn't even find it worthy of using as a toilet.

I hate that commercial too. This, along with the "switch" commercials, and most of the Mac community, is why I hate Apple.

That was not a commercial endorsement for Intel, APPLE Computer paid for it's production and airtime. It is supposed to be promotional material for the new Intel based Mac. Intel Corp. has nothing to do with it.

For the record I've switched ~40 die hard Apple fans to Opteron workstations in the past year. 🙂

send them here 😎

But you have to admire a company that can convince people to pay more for their products due to style rather than substance. I mean look at Sony- they are the "Apple" of the PC world.
Apple is a very good promoter and you have to admit you all would take an Apple 30" display in a heartbeat if they were half the price. Their equipment is good to look at, and their computers are quiet, even if they are underpowered.
