Is it just me or is Firefox just garbage these days?

Every time I think it can't get any worse they update it and prove me wrong! Now it's slow, crashes constantly. I never thought I'd say this but nowadays even Internet Explorer is a better browser IMHO!

What the hell are they doing at Mozilla? It used to be my go to browser. Another thing is all my beloved add ons are never compatible anymore because it seems they update it like twice a month.

I'm about to just give up. it's become more trouble than it's worth. The latest edition is in my opinion, complete garbage!

Anybody know of any alternatives that are worthwhile? I really am not a Chrome fan; it's just too radically different from the kind of browser I am used to.

Haven't noticed anything. Too many addons?

it takes TOOOOOOO MUCH RAM....
and when it goes too high, thats when people see it crash...

And im not kidding about the ram it eats..

And here it doesnt stop there:
Ramusage.jpg

The program is worse then windows 95 at eatting ram.

Is there a ram clear addon for firefox at the very least instead of me having to close and restart browser.

It has never done that to me. Uses about 1/10th of that.

Then my firefox is broken?

Cuz this is repeatable... i can pop the ram usage to that number at given will.

The problem is that number never reduces, unless i close browser, then the system clears the ram.

Is there a way i can clear the ram on timer... cuz the browser turns to crap at 1.5gigs+

Must be your profile or your addons because I use a bunch of them, and my usage usually doesn't go above 350 MB, and it doesn't crash either.

Strangely, my FF is rather Crash Prone when my CPU is Idle. If I keep BOINC running, it never crashes. Not a major problem, since BOINC is almost always running, but kinda strange. I suspect it's a Power Saving/CPU Clock adjusting related issue.

Sounds like you need to completely uninstall FF and then download and install a fresh copy. I have read about stories like this. My FF copies use very little ram...

178,648K right now and this copy (as well as others) have been open for about 2 days.

Added about 18,000k for each copy I opened or 7,000k for each tab that I added. It actually fluctuated up and down from those points but never to any extremes. Firefox 7.0.1 for the record.

Fine here with well over 72 tabs open that I hardly ever close.

My PC never gets turned off.

Fix your computer.

I opened about 50 tabs from my bookmarks. Memory spiked to 900MB, but now it's at 631MB. Closing all the tabs takes me down to about 371MB.

EDIT: Then again, those same 50 tabs plus grooveshark, gmail, and 2 google docs tabs gets me to 2539MB on Chrome and 850MB on Opera. But it was very quick in Opera.

Check-4-change and Add Blocker Plus are the only ones I an think of...goes to check.

Edit: Also "New Tab Homepage".
Well, I only use 10, but disabling all of them except FireGestures, Adblock Plus, and Flasblock nets me another 200MB with those 50 tabs open from my bookmarks. It is faster, and I reckon it still has most of the functionality I need, but it's nowhere near 180MB memory. I'll have to see when I keep using it whether it starts going up again.

Firefox seems to get worse with every release... it's getting harder to find replacements for plugins that break with every new version, and the newer versions seem to have more site compatibility issues and unexplained lockups and crashes. You would think that the browser would be more stable now that fewer plugins are available, but the opposite seems to be occurring. It seems that I haven't used a version that's any good since version 3.6.

I still have the browser installed, but now I'm using Chrome as my default.

It's you.

Yep definitely.

Firefox 9 or 10 will rock when all add-ons always work automatically no matter what version your on!

The third party extension warning is awesome as well. We needed that for a long time in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and all browsers. Hopefully one of them follows behind and learns from Mozilla. The automate silent updates will be nice as well.

Eh.

I hate silent updates, and I hate the new release cycle because it means that there are a lot of addons that don't actually work anymore. It's not just the hassle of re-enabling them, some of them don't actually work, or don't work they way you're used to.

You can turn off silent automate updates, unlike some other browsers.

Firefox 9 or 10 will not have this problem all add-ons will work fine. Watch. I already noticing that all my add-ons on Nightly work great.

I have a similar problem. Three to four tabs and it's around 400+ MB. It's not just you, as so many are quick to say. It's a known issue, look a the firefox forums.
