That's if you take the job seriously... What if someone took a job like that for fun? Those places are probably impossible to get fired from, maybe I should get a job there and run a weblog about it..

I didn't believe you. But I guess maybe that's possible. I just can't belive it's that hard to train somebody to push a bunch of buttons on a cash register, then pick up the pre-prepared food, dump it on a tray and say "I can help you over here."

I fear you underestimate the stupidity of mankind.

Long ago, I worked at Jackoff-in-the-Box. This dude came in and I thought the first thing he said to me was F' you. I wasn't 100% sure, but just in case, I told him to F' off too. After that he placed the order, I served it, and I think he smeared the sandwich all over the table.

way to waste money on a sandwich. what a dumbass.

I'm impressed when I get the correct change and my order contains everything I asked for.

Unfortuntately, I've given up on the notion of people being friendly, just for the heck of it, at fast food places.

Now that, sir, is the one thing that I never do.

I guess it depends on what McDonalds you go to, what the neighborhood is like, and who the manager is. My experiences have been 50/50. I think Burger King has a better ratio. But it still boggles my mind that there are 8 to 10 people working, 1 person to 1 task, and it's still slow service and messy tables. When my wife was a supervisor at Arby's, they rarely had more than 4 people that was able to multitask everything, the only person dedicated was the meat slicer who switched off periodically. Consequently, they got paid a little more.

When eating out (which I do 8-9 times/week), I firmly believe that customer service is an important part of the equation. I'm not paying just for the food, I'm also paying for the service. When I receive poor service, I politiely bring the matter first to my server's attention. If that is followed by further insults to my service requirements (which, like Fausto1, are not that high, just to be treated politely like a human being), I notified the manager. If, at this point, no satisfaction has occurred, one of two things will happen. If I'm in a sit-down restaurant where tipping is the norm, I stiff. Yes, you heard right... it happens VERY rarely, but if the waiter/waitress wants to treat me like sh!t, fight with me, and refuse to apologize or correct poor behavior, you better fscking believe that I will stiff. If it's fast-food, I leave.
Either way, my final solution is to NEVER patronize that establishment again. Never ever. IMO, everyone should do this, as it works. If it's a nicer restaurant, or if the experience was very poor, I also make a point of telling at least 9 people of my poor experience. You may not believe it, but I (and the collective will of others who think like me or who I have converted to this method) have shut down restaurants this way. Thus far, Sweetwater's Jam House in Portland has been my sweetest (no pun intended) victory. Worst service EVAR!
If you're a waitperson of some type, you might be asking yourself, what can you do against an asshole like myself? Simple. If you screw up, spill water on my lap, bring my food to me cold, keep me waiting half an hour for the check so I can pay and leave, all you have to do is smile and apologize. Treat me like a person, not as an already lost tip or someone you wish would just go away. I have NEVER stiffed anyway who apologized. Hell, last week the waitress at Red Robin's tripped and spilled a dish of ranch dressing on my suit. She apologized earnestly, and the manager paid for my cleaning bill. IMO, their food may be so-so, but Red Robin's leads the whole world in chain restaurant customer service, and I go there roughly once a month and will continue to do so.

As for McD's, they've been on my "do not patronize" list since I first wrote it years ago. I wouldn't go there is I was starving to death.

What do you expect from people who get paid jack sh!t and hate their job? I've worked at a McDonalds and it was total crap (although I don't think any of us were ever rude like that). When you're only getting $7 CDN ($4 US?), you tend not to give a damn though.
Still no excuse for being a total sh*thead, IMO. Especially when you're dealing a customer who's actually being nice to you. I've had sh*tty jobs like that when I was younger, so I try not to be the asshole customer who thinks he can jerk you around because you're just a minimum wage worker.

Don't like your job? Finish high school.

Well.. it was just a couple employees.. so get over it 😉 These people aren't going to kiss your ass, they don't get paid enough for it. There will always be some rude ones but they are not that common... then again I've never seen one of them smile and go "can I take your order" as if they meant it. Again, they don't get paid enough to fake that 😉 Meh, I just get my food and go eat, I don't care, it's only a fast-food place. If it was a restaurant I would expect much better service of course (and will probably get it since they collect tips and all)

No, it's actually a relatively nice, new one near Emory U. I eat fast food about once a year, so I was curious if this kind of bullsh|t is the norm or something. When I was a kid, the people in the window were 16 year-olds who were at least happy to have a paycheck (not that they were thrilled about working fast food or anything). Now they're 35 year-old losers who can't/won't work anywhere else.

Are you serious? That's really sad. Your economy must really be in the shitter huh? I don't think I've seen anyone over 25 at a McDonalds unless they owned it. Most of 'em are high-schoolers. The only exception was some 80 year old woman I saw at one McDonalds working the fries. She was a really mean one, lol

These folks working in a MickeyDs drive through ought to be glad America has a taste for cheap unhealthy food, otherwise their worthless butts might be outside in the cold of winter, or heat of summer, digging ditches. They need to realize one thing, the reason they are there is because of the customer. With out "Joe Customer" they have no income.

heh.. I wonder how much money the employee of a mcdonalds actually sees from the profits that mcDonalds collects. Can't be much considering they make minimum wage, although they're the bread and butter of the company. I will almost never eat at a mcdonalds simply because I worked there, and I know what it was like. Would it disgust you to know that the meat in your burger may have been sitting out for several hours? Or that sometimes you will eat an uncooked portion? I know, I know, you have these risks for any fast-food joint but I think the risk is much higher with a McDonalds. Most other chains seem to be of much higher quality.

The big problem with Mcdonalds is that
1. our pay sucks(min wage and if we work our ass off we get a max of .20$ an hour after 6 months(nobody at our mcdonalds has ever recieved such a high wage increase.....))
2. The work is hard. Working at mcdonalds takes alot more energy and determination than you would think
3. The clients. As employees we dont really care about them. ~ 20% of them are nice 50% ok and 30% total assholes(people that change their order 30 times and then run out when it's time to pay of they order extra picles and decoreate the windows with them, write things on the floor with ketchup, etc.)

Most people tend to remember the bad ones better than the good ones. After a year or so you begin to really hate clients.

That's all true. Thank god I never actually had to deal with clients.

you are lucky, at least they spoke english. All the fat food joints around denver you can bearly understand the hell they are saying.

Yip that is true, i started working for McD's the day after i turned 16. after 2 years i totally hated the public and swore i would never ever work fast food or retail again. This was back in the day when mcdonalds used the styrophome containers and kept a bin full of hot food for 10 min before throwing it away. It made me sick to see how much food ONE fricken store wasted every single day.
