Is it just me? Or games lately all seem really... drab and boring

It seems like no good releases is out lately, nor are there any in the near future. It seems to me that most games this year has been craptastic.... Or is it just me?

Just you...I've seen a ton of awesome games this year like Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, Borderlands 2, Metro Last Light.

I've had tons of fun with Bioshock: Infinite, Farcry 3, Tombraider, and now I'm going to start on Metro: Last Light.

There has been lots of great PC games that have came out in the past year and I still have lots of catching up to! I also can't wait for the new Shadowrun game coming out soon.

When Quake came out in 1996 it was the best game ever and still is fun especially with the updated graphics with the Dark Places HD mod.

Company of heroes 2 was decent. I think coh 1 was a lot better in terms of mechanics and how your soldiers take cover automatically when they engage. In coh2 the Soviets were just mowed down everytime you ordered an attack.

I have the same feeling. I am not saying there are not any good games out. I havent tried Tomb Raider, FC3 or Crysis 3. I am kind of burned out on shooters and am not good at the kind of platforming in TR. I plan to try all 3 when they become cheaper, maybe on some kind of sale.

I primarily like single palyer RPGs and RTS games. The last game that I thought exceptional was Skyrim. So there is not much out that really interests me right now. But just look at the AAA games out now. All are sequels of a sequel, just not any innovation.

I did forget Borderlands 2. I do really like that game and have put way too many hours into it, but I really think it would be considered a last year's release.

Edit: I do have COH 2, and am trying to get into it. I like it, but again, just seems like I am playing one of the earlier games with better graphics.

After finishing coh2 I picked up coh 1. I like it a lot better. In terms or graphics 2 is better but I particularly got into rts because the time it takes to complete each mission. Coh2 missions got harder quickly and took some time. At times it felt like you were screwed if you didn't do things a certain way. In coh 1 I find I can do fine just with infantry squads.

The feeling I have is that games nowadays basically "reset" every 40 seconds or so. So like, you don't really feel as much in control as you would playing like space invaders and getting to level 99 without using up 3 lives.

Graphics are always neat at first, but for me, within about 1-2 hours I get used to graphics and they no longer amaze.

But yeah, if you compare modern games to some of the better iphone games like Tiny Wings or Bit.Trip.Beat, you realize that with the better iphone games, there is an accumulation that occurs over the course of the entire level, and each level can last several minutes and so every action that you take really matters.

While in most modern games, you have regenerating health, are never resource constrained (always have more than enough bullets in the gun), make numerous dialogue selections that simply do not matter (bioware games), and overall just feel like a bunch of meaningless plodding packaged in pretty anistropic filtered and anti-aliased graphics.

It's summer. You won't see any major releases till September. If you're looking for something different, hit up the indie section on Steam.

I just picked up Sonic & Allstars Racing on Steam (onsale now). Great game if you like kart games.. def the best one I've ever played. Will only be rivaled (big MAYBE) by MarioKart 8 on Wii U.
