Is it just me or does the Hummer H2 look like terrible?

I mean I've seen quite a few of them driving around Dallas, and they look like hell, why would anyone want to buy that? I rather liked the original Hummer but these just look terrible. The yellow one's look like a schoolbus!

I like it. I wish I could afford it. In my town, the one Hummer dealer is charging about $6K over MSRP and getting it like it's nothing.

I think that they are all stupid. I just can't believe that anyone would buy either the original or the H2 and drive it around town.

original hummer : ugly but awsome offroad performance
new hummer: ugly but moderate offroad performance

Its not a real hummer if they take away all the special features that made the hummer special.

Personally I like the old style better, but that is because I have grown accustomed(sp?) to them. The Hummer Plant is located in Mishawaka, IN which is about 5 minutes from where I attended high school. Their test track is right next to TireRack in South Bend. It is pretty awesome to see some of the tests they undergo such as the wall climb and the underwater (partial) drive.

I find it amazing that they were able to keep 95% of the original HUMMERS off road abilities. I wouldn't buy one to use as a daily driver though, it would get dirty and abused.

I like them.
Of course, I like boxy ORVs. I was a fan of the Land Rover Defender 110 long before SUVs were trendy.

That is so cool that you got to see that! *jealous!* I enjoy light off-roading (no boulder climbing!) in my 4x4 and am in envy of all the awesome features the Hummer comes with stock, as opposed to having to spend $$$ on aftermarket parts/installation.

Things like lockers, nerf bars, tow hooks, all that stuff adds up to big $$$.

I want to put a rear locker on my Trooper. It current has a LSD rear, which is better than nothing, but a locking LSD would be The Cat's Pajamas. :)

Not even close. Its based on the GMT820 platform which is used on all the other GM full-size trucks.

they added the lockers for no other reason than to appease Hummer fans. Normal people dont care about lockers in any way. It also boosted the MSRP up quite a bit. I'll take a spool any day over a locker :D

I think they're the biggest waste of space. I see them parked at malls (of all places) all the time. Idiots that buy those things to drive around the city think they can squeeze into a compact parking space.

I just watched a show this past weekend on the Speed channel where they took the new h2 out and put it through the same tests they did on the old version.

It fared just as well as the old one.

I still think the new one is butt ugly though.

Exactly. The h2 has a horriblely small transverse angle and cheap sheet metal. The frame is only 8" from the ground! Driveline is not near as strong and the front is even worse with it's cheap little torsion bars. You use it like a H1 I suspect it will be totalled after an outing. It's all about looks a stck chevy pickup lifted will serve you much better. It's lighter, higher, cheaper.

Did they actually push the original hummer to the limits though? The ground clearance difference alone would kill any real comparison. Hummers are special because of the radical suspension, driveline and chassis. All of which the new "hummer" does not have. Would you feel a Porche was a real Porche if the new model had a ford frame with a front mounted 4 cyl engine?

EDIT: We have a few driving around here. Have you read the stopping distances on this tank? Thats all we need it this thing rear-ending people on the highway. Kinda reminds me of the behemouth from the Simpsons.

Did they jump it 8 ft off the groud? How about drag the undercarrige over boulders? A stock hummer H1 can do Rubicon.. There is no way in hell a H2 could. This test I susspect was watererd down trailriding.,

Rubicon isnt the end all be all of trails. Each Jeep(including the Liberty :roll;) has had to go through the Rubicon at the end of its design phase.

Much better than the original Hummer.
I find it amazing that they were able to keep 95% of the original HUMMERS off road abilities.
They stripped it down and threw out all the Military parts
Where do you guys get your information? Antisocial-Virge is right, the H2 is a Suburban with a different body on it. The H1 and H2 don't share anything at all.

iamwiz82, you can't drive a spool on-road. I agree that it's better than a locker offroad, but the inability to let opposing wheels spin at different rates will cause you all kind of problems when your tires hook up on something solid.
