Personally I like the old style better, but that is because I have grown accustomed(sp?) to them. The Hummer Plant is located in Mishawaka, IN which is about 5 minutes from where I attended high school. Their test track is right next to TireRack in South Bend. It is pretty awesome to see some of the tests they undergo such as the wall climb and the underwater (partial) drive.Originally posted by: MichaelD
I like it. I wish I could afford it. In my town, the one Hummer dealer is charging about $6K over MSRP and getting it like it's nothing.

I find it amazing that they were able to keep 95% of the original HUMMERS off road abilities

That is so cool that you got to see that! *jealous!* I enjoy light off-roading (no boulder climbing!) in my 4x4 and am in envy of all the awesome features the Hummer comes with stock, as opposed to having to spend $$$ on aftermarket parts/installation.
Things like lockers, nerf bars, tow hooks, all that stuff adds up to big $$$.
I want to put a rear locker on my Trooper. It current has a LSD rear, which is better than nothing, but a locking LSD would be The Cat's Pajamas.![]()

Not even close. Its based on the GMT820 platform which is used on all the other GM full-size trucks.

I just watched a show this past weekend on the Speed channel where they took the new h2 out and put it through the same tests they did on the old version.

It fared just as well as the old one.
I still think the new one is butt ugly though.

I think they're the biggest waste of space. I see them parked at malls (of all places) all the time. Idiots that buy those things to drive around the city think they can squeeze into a compact parking space.![]()

Did they jump it 8 ft off the groud? How about drag the undercarrige over boulders? A stock hummer H1 can do Rubicon.. There is no way in hell a H2 could. This test I susspect was watererd down trailriding.,
Much better than the original Hummer.

Where do you guys get your information? Antisocial-Virge is right, the H2 is a Suburban with a different body on it. The H1 and H2 don't share anything at all. They stripped it down and threw out all the Military parts
iamwiz82, you can't drive a spool on-road. I agree that it's better than a locker offroad, but the inability to let opposing wheels spin at different rates will cause you all kind of problems when your tires hook up on something solid.they added the lockers for no other reason than to appease Hummer fans. Normal people dont care about lockers in any way. It also boosted the MSRP up quite a bit. I'll take a spool any day over a locker

Rubicon isnt the end all be all of trails. Each Jeep(including the Liberty :rollhas had to go through the Rubicon at the end of its design phase.
H2 being winched by a Jeep
same hill conquered by a 30 year old Jeep.
