Is it just me or are the Powerbooks gettin' popular?

I had some money to burn and was looking at getting a laptop. I'd love a Powerbook, but 1600 for the 12" screen is way too much. I use IRIX and Linux at work, so I'm very comfortable using a shell. I'd love to have one, but not for that much.

really?? it might be expensive when comparing to laptops, but when comparing to subnotebooks (which the 12" is sizewise) it's actually priced right.

every other sub 3lb subnotebook i've seen is $1300 and up.

my mistake the apple 12" isn't sub 3 lb, but it is smaller than most full size laptops and almost as functional.

still, i'd take the 12" apple over any of the sub 3lb subnotebooks.

IBM Thinkpad. I don't care if you need to sell lemonade to get the extra cash for one. You'll thank yourself many times over. I SWEAR by IBM.

I was looking at the T series laptops and I noticed that the max resolution is 1024 x 768, is that right? For a 14.1 isn't that a little low?

How hard is it for me to get used to OS X ?

Shouldn't be too hard considering it's based on *BSD, which is derived from *nix.

ya it rox. but it makes me a terrible at watching movies. man i just watch interesting parts and surf when it gets boring. ironically it makes me get bored easily with both surfing and watching the movie vs just watching one or the other.

If I ever bought an Apple, it'd be a PB. I just can't justify the cost.

Check out the ThinkPad X Series. They cost more then the 12" PowerBook, and with the SuperDrive, I really think the 12" PB isn't too expensive. They cost the same, or the ThinkPad a little bit more.

I've got an older 667 Titanium PowerBook and it's the most reliable machine I've got... I'm aching for a 17" PowerBook.

BTW, I'm a Windows user all the way; but Apple and their laptops can't be brushed aside. Beautiful machines. Their implementation of bluetooth is great; there are programs that let me use my T68i cell phone's joystick as a wireless mouse over bluetooth (or to control iTunes music or DVD playback through phone menus)... endless creativity on the software side, imho.
