Isn't that question kind of redundant?

They're a protected species.

The only thing i've heard is that you're not supposed to hunt them... don't know about the laws against owning them.

You are not allowed to own them. They are protected, and usually the protectorate tries to get them to breed. If you owned them, how can they enforce if you breed them?

These aren't ordinary pandas though... they're red pandas, they don't get any bigger than dogs.

They're endangered, which means that they don't let just anybody take one.

Oh please, they don't teach this stuff in school. Maybe there's a license you can get to own certain species of animals?

You're right, they don't teach common sense in school. :)

You can own them however it has to come from domesticated breeder instead of wild ones.

Beside the difficulty to get them legally, you have to provide meat, fresh bamboo leaves (1.5 kg) & shoots (4 kg) daily. They do consume berries and meat beside bamboo but the fast digestive system (2-4 hours pass through) require the high quantity of bamboo fiber to ensure that they don't get constipation.

Perhaps you could sponsor one then?

Though I suppose that goes against the intent of the OP...

Nobody takes them

So you have almost 1% of the California Condor population? :Q

Well, I live in Ojai and they come to my yard for food. I snag them in my traps.;)
