I just got a new bumper and body shop didnt put on the liscense plate bracket on the front. Picked up the car today and on my way to work, had the liscense plate on the bottom corner of my windshield. got pulled over and got a tix. explained to the officer that i just picked up the car and will get it fixed tonight. he wasnt hearing any of it. gave me freakin ticket.

even though i was gonna get it put on soon, i didnt know this is illegal as i see people driving around with their liscense plates on the dash all the time

Well, if it's a fix-it just install the plate and head over to the po-po station.

from what i hear, it depends on the height of vehicles dashboard, certain vehicles it is illegal to have it on the dash board. I'd take the ticket back to the shop.

depends on your state law.
In PA all front license places are illegal. Must be mounted on the rear of the car.
unmounted plates in any window are illegal.

Where I live it is illegal, and also very dangerous... if you get in a wreck, the license plate might be sent flying and injury someone in the car

Like sao123 said, it depends on the state. Here in CA, the front plate has to be mounted on the bumper because of red light cameras and toll booth cameras.

in WI front plates are required, and all plates must be firmly affixed to the vehicle

It's probably just a fix-it ticket, so as long as it's taken care of in ten days, he doesn't have to pay anything.

I don't see why the shop should be responsible.

I got a ticket (from NJ) for no front plate. It looks dumb on my car so I dont have it on (and keeping it in the window looks even dumber). I keep the plate in the pocket on the back of the passangers seat. Whatever law says is what is legal so if a front plate is required then yes, not having it mounted is illegal. My ticket was for $54.

In Oregon, you must have both a front and rear license plate and they must be fixed in the propperly mounted positions.

You need a front plate in IL.

I was parked at O'Hare and my front plate had been torn off from a snow plow about a week prior. Well, I got a ticket from the Chicago police since my plate was missing while it was in the O'Hare parking lot. Only $25, but it was one of those tickets where it could NOT be argued about. You pay or you pay. No if's, and's or but's.
Nice to get back from a horrible business trip to see a ticket on your car for a missing front plate. Especially since the car was just sitting there......

Sorry, you're wrong. If you are issued two plates, you must use both of them. Not using the plates could result in a 25-200 fine and 50 dollar surcharge.

unless you're a ricer with nowhere to mount the license plate in the front, or if you drive a benz and are too good to put a license plate in the front, or if your front bumper fell off.... i think 1/10 the cars i see on the road here don't have a front plate.

just get the license plate mounted, go to the DMV or wherever it is that can check your car and sign off on getting it fixed. Fix-it tickets are cheap if you fix it quickly. $10 in california, not sure about other places.

I'd say yes. Front license plates are such a scam anyways. How much was the ticket for?

cant blame the shop 100%. They gave me the option to leave the car with them another half day so they can get the part (lisc plate bracket for r32) and put it on. But i had already returned the rental and needed to get to work...

No, we get two (front and rear). I was just commenting on the front plate specifically.

damn NJ...

but thank god i didn't get pulled over because my front bumper was wrecked from deer accident. i put the front license plate by the windshield. i've been driving that for what, two weeks. no tickets at all.

now the bumper is replaced so the license plate is now mounted.
