Is it illegal to fake your own death?

This was just something random that popped into my head the other day. Assuming you don't hurt anybody, damage any property other than your own, commit fraud, and don't profit off it through insurance, etc.

I know suicide is illegal but I only just thought of it from a new point of perspective.

If there was a way to live forever, and that 'treatment' became readily available and free/cheap, then would it be considered illegal to NOT take it, since that would effectively be suicide (70 year suicide).

I think it would fall under the False Report category, probably Fraud (depending on what insurance, other actions, etc. are tied to it), and I'm sure there are some other charges that could be made too.

😀😀

and there is why its illegal. the actually act probably has no law connected to it, but avoiding debt and the like IS illegal.

Here's a better question... if you decide to get cryogenically frozen for 7-10 years... you couldn't be sued for any of your past debts right? 😉

or you could just "disappear"...your family figures you as dead, so they have a funeral. everyone thinks you're dead, and nothing illegal was done

That's kind of what I thought. But like I said, what if you don't commit insurance fraud, or use it to avoid any kind of debts etc. Is the act itself still illegal?

if anyone issued a death certificate in relation to this, it would be false. without a death certificate, you aren't dead. so i don't see how you can get dead without commiting some type of fraud.

But then you aren't the one issuing the certificate or asking for the certificate to be issued, its someone else.

But Pauly Shore got arrested for it in his movie, so I guess its illegal.
