This is why I don't like walking in cities. There are laws I'd never known about. I think I was somewhere around age 20 before I learned what "jaywalking" meant. The rural road near where I lived got maybe 50 cars a day travelling over it, and I never had to cross it.

Definitely. Some of them are very good, complete with not only timers, but also the inductive sensors under the road to determine where cars are. Others include extra sensors to determine how backed up traffic is getting so as to know how to assign priority. And they may also include the sense to know that if the left turn signal is on, it might not be a good idea to tell the pedestrians that it's ok to cross. Others might not be so intelligent.
