Is it human nature to blab about doing something illegal?

tv shows have the cops catch the bad guys because the bad guys couldnt keep their mouth shut about the crime to other people.

i thought that was just tv and people dont do it in real life.

well, i did something illegal a few days ago, and if caught, i might get 1-3 years. (no, i'm not saying what.)

it wasnt planned. but i told myself dont say a word.

a week later, i blabed about it to an acquaintance. WTF?! why the hell did i do that?! and why to an acquaintance?

now in those 5 days, i hung out with a close friend. why the hell did i manage to keep my mouth shut w/him w/o even having the urge to blab. yet, i voluntary sung like a canary to this other person.

just wondering if it's just human nature? and if so, WHY do we do it?!
 
No, it's just that many people lack willpower. It's also the reason why so many of americans have fat asses.
 
I guess people just feel guilty about what they did and feel the need to confess.

Not me, though. My secrets die with me.
 
It's probably doesn't help that you just blabbed about committing some crime to the thousands of people that frequent this board. 😀

some of whom are cops, and one of which is a DA.
 
To answer your question tho', your defenses are up more when talking to a close friend, since human nature is to generally confess more intimate things with close friends. So instead, since your defenses to not share this information aren't up with acquantainces, it slips out more often.
 
Watched a guy of TV the other night wondering why a woman cannot keep a seceret but can hold a fart, his advice was to tell the secret to the place that could be held shut.

What did you do... steal satellite? Steal from a store... sell drugs? Yeah it is human nature to blab about doing something illegal because they want to brag that they got away with something
 
People like to talk..people like to tell stories..people like to tell interesting stories. Illegal things make for interesting stories, hence they tell them. Certainly more interesting than what you had for breakfast this morning.
 
Human nature. Not always restricted to illegal activities though. It's just human nature not to be able to keep your mouth shut about anything. For most people at least.

JEDI said he did something he could get 1 - 3 years for.

I have observed the world from the wrong side of jail bars, but I have never done anything that would get me a sentence like that.
