This is the first football game I have actually owned (usually just borrowed friends games) since Tecmo Bowl. Good times so far.

Tecmo Bowl

Yeah, it's football season. Maybe you've heard of the World Cup?

I was thinking more in terms of the non-pansy-ass football...

Adam Carolla was talking about soccer this morning. He equated Soccer/Futbol to be the equivalent of the metric system....WE DON'T WANT IT! REGARDLESS OF WHO ELSE LIKES IT!

Brazil won it's match yesterday 1-0....wow. 1-0. That is simply amazing.

Some of the best matches I have ever seen have ended 0-0 (same with in hockey, 1-0 games are often the best). The final score does not necessarily indicate whether a game was good or bad.

I have a franchise in it's 17th season... and I played every game including the preseason games in all 17 seasons... 10 minute quarters, accelerated clock. Won the superbowl every year from the 4th season on...

Thats ~1hr per game... ~23 games a season.... 17 seasons... 391 hours... not including time doing the minicamps, and offseasons...

I have 3 other franchises too...

I have a madden problem...

Wow, yeah, holy crap. That is quite the time investment.

I am just having a hard time figuring out the controls, I keep fumbling and getting intercepted. I had over 300 yards of offense, but every time I got near the end zone I would turn the ball over :|

You need to figure out your bread and butter plays... nice safe plays that you can use to chew up those last few yards.... check out your players find out who has the best CAR stat... and just punch them up the middle....

Keep up with your matchups... does your WR have better agi and acc than the CB... then have him do ins outs and curls... does he have the SPD on the CB? run at the safety a few times to entice him, then do a play action deep ball... make sure that Safety bites and throw that long ball..

You'll learn... and then you'll stomp the hell out of the computer... I'm at the point now where I'm trying silly goals like... score 100 points, and see if I can keep the opponent in negative yards of offense... and yes I play on all-madden difficulty

Yet Americans still enjoy baseball. The Cleveland Indians lost to the Yankees 1-0 yesterday. They call that a "pitchers duel".

That's not the controls, that's you not picking a receiver correctly...try running plays with good saftey outlets, like two receivers going out in the flats.

I can agree with the statement about Hockey. Indoor Soccer even.

But even then, wtf is the point of playing for a tie?????

Wow, that sounds complicated. Whatever happened to A=pass, B=tackle? 😛

Seriously though, I am going to have a couple of buddies over this weekend and get them to teach me the ins and outs. Since I was just playing for the first time last night I was letting Madden pick all my plays 😀 I just wanted to get a basic feel for the game. I think it will be a while until I can break it down as well as you can.

it's different though... Baseball is a background sport... you do other things while the game is on.... when you go to the game, it's more like a picnic than anything else...

Yeah, it always seemed like the same guy was open, so I kept throwing there. I have to remember that the game is smart enough to figure out my repetitive behaviours.

Does anyone ever really play for a tie? There is just so much more to soccer than scoring goals. I like to watch great passing/tackling/dribbling, not just goal scoring.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way 🙁

So who do you like?
Redskins fan perchance (since I know you're in DC)? If so, I know the feeling; can't wait to see what Al Saunders does with that offense (+ B. Lloyd and A. Randel-el).

Yeah it's pretty exciting... I'm really hoping they let Campbell get rolling... he's the key to whether we're going to the big game or not... and as of right now I have no idea if he's any good t'all...

I'm also excited about some of these rookies... Mario Williams... Vince Young.... Reggie Bush... Vernon Davis... all are going tobe so fun to watch this year...

The thing that makes real football so special is that it does not last 3/4's of the year like professional hockey or basketball. It's only 7 weeks until the Hall of Fame game so hang in there.

you and Carolla can STFU too. If football touchdowns got 1 (one) point instead of 7 (with field goal) you would see many 1-0 games, oh and what about hockey? Is it all you care about is a high score? well damn why not make a touch down worth 100 points then, or a hockey goal worth 50?

Actually touchdowns are 6 points. 7 points is a result of two scores. And the field goals are 3 points🙂

getting my HDTV on friday...can't wait for football season either. Now they just need to broadcast all the NCAA football games in HD...

Was wonderingwhen this argument would show up....Doboji got it right. Baseball is a game of anticipation. You know when the ball is going to be pitched, and you know what could happen. There is that moment where the guy could crush a 450ft rope, be the 10th in a row to be retired, or hit in to a flawlessly executed DP. That moment is there 200+ times a game.

The only similar "moment" in soccer would be CK's and PK's. Brazil took a whopping 8 shots on goal, Croatia a mind-blowing 4. You're right, that is exciting! Give me a game with 30+ shots on goal, and I might watch. Show me slide-tackle after slide-tackle, and I might watch.

At any rate, to each his own.
