Is it feesable to split an RCA input to allow for two device connections?

I.E.

Radio --> Pie Adapter --> RCA Inputs ---> SPLIT --> Two Devices

Would there be a noticable degredation in sound quality?

Does Ratshack sell anything to split both, or would i have to just split each RCA channel individually?

EDIT: before anyone says it, i know you can run both at the same time :)

Well i would just turn one off and allow the other to play through, so i assume i really dont need a switchbox...

If I get what you're saying, you want two devices to go to the same input. Yes, you could use some splitter cables, no you couldn't run both at once. And yes, RADIOshack does sell them, individually only, although they also have piggy-back cables to hookup one device, then plug the other into the piggy-back part of the plug and just turn the unused device off.

Better plan would be an auto-sensing switch of some sort, it'll register the last thing to turn on (rather the last signal to show up at a jack) and switch automatically to that device, then back to the last used device when you turn it back off. Bit pricier, but you'll avoid the quality issues by using all the extra connections for both devices, and you won't have to worry about having one off all the time.

Cool, thanks for the info... Any degrdation in sound by using such a device?

It depends on how you turn something off aphex, for ex. if you turn off a PS2 using the front power button & not the power switch in the back, it will still send a signal that won't let you share the same RCA audio cable w/ another device :)

Not really, no. Alot of the better switches also have a small amp in it to make sure your signal doesn't fade while switching it over. Like I said, more expensive, but the better way to go unless you're lazy and/or cheap.

Well i was thinking, if i completely unplug one of the devices (the ipod) when im not using it, would it still be worthwhile to get a switch?

I did that with my gamecube and xbox for a while until I got a new receiver. It worked fine for both audio channels and the video channel. Turned them both on by accident once, it was not pretty!

hehe, thats cool though...

I dont wanna do it if it will really regrade the SQ while one device is off, but if it works ok, i think i may just split it.
