that has that service where they'll pack stuff for you before shipping?

I totally remember hearing commercials advertising it; I've got a bunch of stuff I need to mail out for christmas and don't feel like screwing around with buying boxes, packing peanuts, etc. I can't remember which it was that advertised it, though :(

They'll both do it, not that anyone's told you yet.

I generally prefer Fedex (non-ground)... packages tend to get there with fewer problems and breaks. That said, the last time I had to ship a laptop via UPS, I just took it in and a clerk wrapped it up so well that I wouldn't have had a problem if they *did* drop it off of a large building... it was very well done. ;) What I've seen with Fedex so far is that they just put the item in a box and fill up the space with packing peanuts.

FedEx Office offers pack & ship services.

They just reduced the prices on some sizes, down to $4.99.
The packing supplies are included in the packing price. There is an additional charge over the cost of the supplies, but if there wasn't, they wouldn't do it. Professionally packaging items takes time, they aren't gonna do it for free.
That being said, a lot of times it is a good value. You don't have to buy the supplies, take the time, figure it out. They do all that for you. Additionally, FedEx recently started a Pack & Ship Guarantee. If a package is packed by FedEx Office, and damaged in shipment, they won't deny your claim even if it was improperly packaged. They will also refund you the cost of the packing service.

Just make sure you don't walk in 5 minutes before the last pickup of the day and expect them to pack it and ship it that day.
