Do you think its fair for smokers to take smoke breaks during the day and talk with there friends when non-smokers are still working?

I'm a non-smoker and at my job it doesnt effect me at my position. However at some of the jobs were I work have sit down jobs. Then being on the phones all day and have limited walk around time. However if your a smoker at this job they get more breaks from the phones which seems unfair to the rest of the group. Taking more calls to cover when smokers are gone 3-4 times times a day taking 3-8 minutes?

Your thoughts?

What's stopping you from taking similar breaks? Go have a coffee, chat with a co-worker or whatver. Does your company have a policy that favors smokers when it comes to breaks?

thats what i am thinking. Go take a cheetos/water cooler break, tell management that you are addicted to cheetos and just have to have one right now or you are going to have a cheetos fit and it isnt going to be pretty.

As if the non smokers can't sit around the office BSing the same as the smokers. The difference is, at least this time of year, the non smokers can stay warm and BS with each other

i have a guy at work (3d developer) that bitches and moans about having to work extra hours to get his job done, how he doesnt have enough time to complete things, yet 8-10 times a day he takes a "smoke break" where he goes outside and talks on his cell phone. I wonder why he never has enough time 😕

Have you ever taken a break to surf the internet at work...make a personal phone call...step outside to socialize, or engage in watercooler discussions...all of those things are "breaks"...to single out smokers is hypocritical, as I doubt anyone on this forum dedicates every second of every work day to actual work...hell most of us are probably posting on here FROM work.

Do what I do. Go outside with the smokers and stand there.

Upwind of course😀 Seriously, this is THE best answer. Don't piss and moan, take the same breaks!

Yet Another Smoking Thread (that is SURE to end up in a flamewar).

If you have a problem with smokers taking more breaks, then you should go out and take a "fresh air" break or a "stretching my legs" break.
Problem solved and another thread bashing smokers should be over (but it won't be).

if people like you weren't around, then we wouldn't have to whine.
I can still hear you whining. You know if you minded your own business you wouldn't have to whine.

Smoke breaks are acceptable in American/European/Asian/Western society so deal with it. 20-30 years ago it was common to smoke in the office (or anywhere else for that matter) and now it has moved outdoors or to designated areas. If you don't smoke then go outside to get fresh air to clear your head a few times a day. Some people take advantage of smoking but there are plenty of people who don't smoke and sit around screwing off at their desk instead.

man, some people can't go an hour without smoking. people really need to control their urges or whatever. pisses me off to no end. and whats even worse is that most times, the smokers do a sh!tty job to begin with

Somewhere a very tiny violin is playing.

Also do you have anything beyond heresay to back-up your claim about smokers and their work productivity?

Wow, yeah, it would suck if nonsmokers didn't get the same breaks. You can't go for a walk or go for some coffee when smokers are having their break? I've never been at a job where smokers go preferential treatment.
