Is it even possible to have a sys and cpu temp diff of 30c

Is it possible to have a cpu temp of 60c and a sys temp of 31c? I just replaced my motherboard with the same make and model. I cleaned up the cpu and heatsink tha was on the old motherboard with a credit card and alocohl and then applied the new arctic silver 5 paste with a credit card so that no metal was showing (but I didn't think it was too thick). My old cpu temp was 32c with a sys temp of 30c. This one has a cpu temp of 53c to 60c with a sys temp of 30c. You think that with that cpu temp that my sys temp would be hotter. So my quesiton is do I need to redo the thermal paste or is my new motherboards thermo messed up.

It is possible if the motherboard temp gauge is away from a cpu that has an improperly installed heatsink or fan. I would take off the heatsink and reattach and make sure the fan is blowing down into the heatsink and not blowing up and away. It can happen!

Ok, I redid it this time. I spent 45 minutes cleaning the cpu and heatsink with alcohol. Instead of applying the paste all over the athlon 64, I did it like arctic silver 5 recommended: put the thermal paste in the middle about 3/4 the size of a bb. From a cold start, my system temperature iwas 26c and my cpu temperature was 51c and is now 53c, but I haven't run any big applications yet. The cpu is a non-overclocked athlon 64 3000. I think my cpu's thermometer is mesed up. What do you all think?

what model motherboard? i know the msi k8n platinum (nforce 250) bios prior to 1.40 gives erroneous readings on the cpu with newcastle . It could be the motherboard, too. Mine originally had similar high numbers, then after flashing to the most recent bios, mine dropped into the 40's immediatly

yeah, I have a chaintech vnf3-250 with phoenix award bios v6.00. my old chaintech vnf3-250 didn't have this problem, but it could have been a different bios version

what are you using to monitor the temp? i know my msi has something called core central, but i comared it against mbm like they did in the post i added above.

A BIOS update should solve your problem. If not then you may have to get your motherboard replaced because of a faulty monitoring chip....
