I've got a athlon 900mhz with 128 mb of pc 100 ram, i know its ancient, and i just recently installed a geforce4 4200 which i plan to switch over to my new pc i'm buildin, but for now this is all i've got. now i have a 146 watt power supply and i was wondering whether this is enough power to supply this kind of rig. The manufacturer may have gipped me by giving me a to weak of a power supply because it isn't enough. I notice that my geforce 4 is getting really hot and i'm thinkin the lack of power may be stopping the colling systems from running at their best. The problem is my cpu freezes after a while and i'm near sure that it is from overheating to the video card.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if the 146 watt power supply was enough and what could be causing the video card to get so hot. thanks

Others would know better than I, but my guess is that power supply is not enough. I would recommend a good power supply of atleast 300w. Antech, Enermax, and Sparkle are a few good brands. As for the video card, check your case cooling. Also, check the fan on the video card. One time I noticed that my video card fan wasn't running because the plug had pulled out a little bit. Just some thoughts - hopefully some others will chip in with some more help.

likely the freezes are due to lack of power or the power supply struggling to meet power needs...I am surprised if the thing doesn't all out die soon....

Pick up a nice 300-350 watt sparkle or antec PS...This should also be able to take you to most athlon xp and p4 setups if you wish to upgrade soon...
