Is it difficult to install carpeting?

To lay carpet and have it bunch up and look like crap in 4 weeks is easy. To stretch carpet, tack, seam it, have it look good and last for years is black magic.

Honestly carpet laying is so cheap it is a no-brainer to hire it out.

Buy a kenga backed carpet (carpet with pad attached) and it's extremely easy to install. Just measure, cut, and lay. Use tape around the edges if you'd like, definietly around the seams. We bought some for our basement and couldn't be happier.

Bolded is truth. I have no idea how they do it, but I can tell you... They sure can do it fast and for cheap.

Nope, not at all...however, installing carpet CORRECTLY is difficult if you don't know what you're doing or have the right tools.

My brother used to do carpet laying and I watched him when he did our townhouse living room, staircase, and upstairs hallway. Personally I wouldn't attempt to do it on my own, especially if seaming is involved.

In most cases, the installation is included at no extra cost to the buyer. Now if you have some extra carpet around and it is the right size, I can see them charging a fee for padding, tackless strips and install. But it will still be very cheap to do and you really can't do it yourself without training and some special tools.

Psst, hey mac, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, it's built into the cost of the carpet. 😉

So do you know any store that will discount the price of the carpet if you don't take the free or reduced price install? $50 - $99 seems to be the going rate for install from the big box stores.

Ehh, I've done quite a bit of rehabbing in my home, and I've not attempted carpet. I don't think I want to, though if I do, it'll be remnants that I get for cheap, meaning I wouldn't be out too much $$$ if it doesn't last.

this.

home depot and lowes often run 39-99 dollar whole house installation sales.

39 bucks is cheap enough I am not going to fret it thats for sure. especially if there is seaming involved,
