Is it difficult to hook Apple up to a Linksys N router?

My sister just called to say she was at best Buy looking for a router. I just told her to grab the Linksys E1200 N router. Then after I hung up, I realized she has Mac and PC in her house. Is this going to be a pai to set up?

No.

You click on the wifi icon, set it to on and the network appears in the drop down. Click connect plug in the password and go. Marginally easier than Windows (barely).

If One has a choice between getting the "Pluage" or using Connect software, One should take the plague. - :sneaky: -

My philosophy is that if One can not learn how to manually configure one time basic Wireless connection, he/she should not use a computer at all.

It kind like if you do not know how to open the door of a car don't be a driver.

I agree, but this is my sister
and she lives in a different town.I will have to explain it over the phone and she knows as much as the average 80 year old about computers. She isn't even very good at telling you what she sees on the computer screen so you can guess where she is or what she clicked.

Let me agree, but quibble with what you said. It is fairly simple to set up, but MOST people have either never done it (the cable guy did it for them), or they have only done it once. So, it is not always a case of being stupid or not trying, but rather the almost complete lack of ever doing it. No amount of intelligence or intuition or effort is going to make someone try typing 192.168.1.1 into the browser.

A node is a node, irrespective of make of computer.

Remember TCP/IP is an open protocol suite, so all constituent protocols (Application, Transport, Internet, Link) can work on any platform.

The major issue here would be configuration between OS'.

Don't use WPS Setup, have her do a manual configuration, might take a little longer and some work, but get that done. You could have her wire in temporarily, then using something like TeamViewer connect up and you can manually configure it all yourself. I'd even install something like LogMeIn free too so you can manually fix other problems or look at her screen when shes describing something in the future.

While you're at it, configure the router to hand out OpenDNS for the computers instead of less secure ISP DNS servers.

And as to your question about Apple and Linksys, no problems there.. They should work well together. I have only had Linksys at home and its worked fine with my Macs. Same at work.
