Is it dangerous to test a bad CPU?

I have what I think is a broken CPU, or a broken motherboard... I need to figure out which, and before I test the CPU in another system, I wanted to check and make sure that no damage could be done to the new motherboard if the CPU was bad.

More than likely it won't turn on rather than kill something unless the pins are bent etc...

Ive tested many bad cpu's and it never damaged any motherboards.

I've had a bad CPU that took out (explosively) a voltage regulator on its first board and then did the same thing to the test mobo - a K6-2 and both mobos were ECS. Never say never...
