is it customary to get a coolant flush when replacing a water pump?

water pump was replaced a year ago and i don't have the bill, nor do i remember if they did or did not do a flush.

I have the cooling systems on my cars flushed yearly. I've seen too many radiators and engine blocks get blocked with mineral deposits and sludge.

Yes, the generally won't flush the coolant. It is really easy to do yourself. All you need is a garden hose and some premixed coolant.

you have to be careful using a regular garden hose because the pressure can easily blow apart the connectors.

you also have to dispose of the drained coolant properly.

Im sure not many people know a place to dispose of several gallons of coolant.

i've heard your not supposed to do the garden hose flush anymore, as the coolant is toxic and needs to be disposed. disposing 50 gallons of coolant or whatever amount that you use by doing it with a hose is rather impossible.

the proper way is to drain the coolant into a pan,and put into empty jugsin some areas it is ok to flush down the toilet,check where you live.,

then after you have drained all out that you can,then backflush with a garden hose;
using Prestones flush kit helps make it easier.
