Is it common for two different sets of RAM to do this?

So I just got a set of 2gb of OCZ platium RAM. This RAM is probly 3 months old as I bought them from my cousin. Any way I wanted to see how high I could push this stuff. My old ram was a set of Patriot 2*512, I could not get them past 217FSB. So Im going throught trying to see what the OCZ can do. I found that they cannot go past 217fsb. Is this common or do you think it might be something else that is limiting the ram to 217fsb?

If I were to losen the timings abit do you think I would be able to bumo the speed up? I tried bumping the voltage up to 2.8 and it didnt do anything.

Timings play a huge role, so yes, adjusting the timing might get you a couple more mhz.

Another question. There are a bunch of different timings in the bios, so which one do I change to tweak it even more? specs are in the sig.

I don't think it's your RAM, look for a BIOS setting called HTT Multiplier or something like that and reduce it from 5x to 4x (or from 1000 to 800, depends on your motherboard). That should let you get past 217 FSB.

Uhh the timings you are looking to change are really just the Cas/CL latency, Tras, Trp, Trc. I believe that's what they are called in BIOS. Someone please confirm the names for me.

I wasnt able to find cas or CL in bios I looked for those. I did see the others so I will go see what I can do. How much of a performance hit will I see if i move the timings to 3-4-3-8? but crank the fsb up as high as it can go?

ok so I changed the timings to 3-4-3-8 and I got up to 231 but it was strange cuz it did not detect my video drivers. it was stable at 230 so that is fairly respectable. there was one other timing that was at 7 that I moved to 8. Im not sure what it is so maybe someone can fill me in
