Is it "Cheating" to celebrate christmas while not being a christian? I was talking to some people the other day and we were talking about how christmas is more of a comercial holiday revolving around santa who brings gifts -> which come from stores. One girl said if ur not christian its cheating to celebrate christmas. I reject that idea knowing that to more then half the people who pass gifts and pitch a tree, that is christmas to them..there are only a few who pitchup the whole baby jesus and all. So is it a religious holiday to you? do you celebrate it as one? If your not chrisitan is it wrong to celebrate it?

nope... its certainly not... not in my eyes anyways.. not that im a devout christian... but i dont care what you believe.. christmas is more just about the spirit of coming together and closeness with family/friends... so more power to you if you celebrate christmas... or whatever other holiday during late december... especially festivus

No, of course not. It's everyone's right to celebrate the birth of Santa.

i don't think so. christmas isn't really even jesus's birthday. its a pagan celtic holiday that was altered to be christian to convert celts.
and now its really about family, to those of us who aren't religious. just a time for the family to get together and show each other how much the mean (or dont mean...) to each other. :)

hmmmm, "cheating", never thought of it like that before.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) I don't believe it's wrong, confusing yes. It is confusing to see people who attack christians celebrate the birth of Christ. However, like you stated in your post, Christmas has become very commercial and many celebrate it as a holiday.

The way I see it, Christmas is a holiday season where even non-christians seek to be Christ-like. :)

Nope. In fact, Christmas was a pagan holiday before it was a christian one. My dad is an atheist and it is his favorite holiday.

In fact, Easter was a pagan holiday as well. It was a celebration of the Goddess of Fertility, Eastre. You all can guess what happened when they celebrated fertility in her name ;):D

I am a Christian.. ok.. that said.. I dont think its cheating or wrong for non-Christians to be celebrating Christmas. I mean, how can anything that brings happiness, joy, families together, high spirits, togetherness, and presents be wrong?? no matter who or for what reason. It promotes the best of everybody.. Now, the reason it is celebrated is different, and that could matter to some people. My celebration is because of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior came to this Earth. (and you people that are going to argue with me, I know Jesus was not born December 25th, and that the holiday didnt originate from him. I can still choosed to celebrate it whenever I'd like... so just save it eh??) That is why I celebrate it, but I will not hold it against anybody else who celebrates it differently. I may disagree with them, but its not my right to tell them how they should celebrate it. I can tell them why i think they should, or share with them why I do, as I am with you all.

nope, its immoral to celebrate christmas if youre not a christian. just like you cant celebrate channuka or kwanza if your not jewish or of african descent respectively. you have to celebrate some sort of pagan holiday. as previously mentioned, festivus is a good alternative.

It is a celebration of Jesus' birthday. The celebration of what the coming of God's Son to the world would bring to all mankind. I seem to remember three Wise Men celebrating rather profusely...and they were not Christian.

I'm not Jewish but I burn a mennorah during Chanukah. There is something about candles burning, celebrating a miracle, and knowing there are other people around the world doing exactly the same thing, that really appeals to me. So I do it. If indeed a miracle did take place, I believe that miracles belong to everyone, and if any Jewish people find this offensive - well, tough.

Celebrate and find joy in what feels right to you. It's all good. Write your own book.

Of course not. Most "Christians" celebrate it for the same reasons I do: Vacation, family, gifts.

Cheating how? As in cheating their way into Heaven? Cheating somebody else out of xmas if we celebrate it?

I don't celebrate christmas, instead I celebrate the holiday that Christianity copied christmas from, the Zoroasterian Feast of the Dark.
