is it bricked?

I'm trying to fix my little brothers router WRT54G version 6. He is just a kid so I don't think he was fiddling around with updating firmware or anything.

I don't know exactly if it's bricked because there are no red led's but what is happening now is the power light is blinking green and everything else is solid green.

This is happening even with nothing plugged into it but the power cord.

I try to connect it regularly to my computer as you would, and Windows just says Network Cable Unplugged, which is weird because I would at least expect some sort of signal.

I'm on Vista btw and it works with direct connection to the cable modem.

I've read around about tftp and re-flashing and all that, but I can't even get a connection at all to the router, so what can I do?

Is it dead?

Thanks!

May be the configuration was changed.

Hard Reset the device (look at the manual), and it would be at the default factory setting.

I've tried to hard reset it already.

Holding the reset button for 30 seconds, unplug, still holding for another 30 seconds, and plugging back and holding 30 seconds.

I've tried a reset with different time intervals..about 30 times to no avail.

It is offically DEAD..Time to buried WRT54G...I had same problem with version 3 few months ago. Unless someone can come up with a better solution to unbrick it.

Have you tried a different power adapter? Get one with the same voltage and polarity and give it a shot. At worst, you'll fry it for sure, and that'll put an end to this problem...

I have a WRT54G that is sorta bricked, the wireless works GREAT but the wired switch inside shows connection, but can't get it to make a good connection to anything. If I hook it directly to my desktop or laptop, the light on the front shows traffic, but the computer ends up with an APIPA address after about 2 minutes. I guess I could have (if the port to the cable modem still worked, not sure if it does or not) buy wireless cards for everything, but instead i just dropped $50 on a new WRT54G
