Is it better to bid early or late?

So some guy started his auction out with a high starting price ($550, usually sells for $650) and he's got zero feedback, but I think he's good because I've got a line of communication going and he seems ok and willing to do things such as ship COD.

The auction ends in one day. No bids yet. At least one watcher besides me.

Should I bid $650 now and potentially scare away other would-be bidders? Or should I wait for the impending bidding war in the last few minutes and try to survive that?

if you bid high now you might scare away anyone nervous about a low feedbacker and spending so much money...

why don't you post a link so we can...keep an eye on it for you. :)

He's probably gonna try to scam you. i would check to see if the other person bids on the item.

Is it possible to instantly bid that much? For me, it always bids the minimum amount but ups my bid to the maximum as other people bid...

Regardless, it's best to bid late or, if you have a fixed amount you are willing to pay (and nothing more), put that as your maximum bid and check when the auction ends.

No, it's not possible to bid that much at the get go, but I was hoping to scare some people off like:

I bid $650, ebay shows the high bidder (me) at $550.

Person A bids $580 - "You've been outbid"
Person A bids $600 - "You've been outbid"
Person A bids $630 - "You've been outbid"
Person A says, "Aww fsck it" and leaves.

Bidders get a want not to lose. So chances are if you bid high now they will bid higher than they might have originally planned. I would wait.

Bid what you are willing to pay. It's not that hard. If you don't get it, then it was overpriced or you would have bid more...

People don' tknow what you bid anyway as it will show you at $550 even if you big $650. It doesn't go up until others try to bid against you.

That being said, I always wait until the last 30 seconds and then bid.

Nope. IT's always about sniping. If you can't s nipe, learn to let it go.....

Last 20 seconds. Open new window.. 1 @ auction refreshing, the other @ bid window with a bid typed in. Hit it in the last 10 seconds, and keep refreeshing so you don't ge toutbid..
