ya, it's pretty high. you should get some better thermal paste, a better hsf, or better airflow throughout your system.

BTW temps that high would indicate poor HSF contact, double check that you installed it correctly.

Most people report temps in Celsius not Fahrenheit. In this case, your at about 67 C. For just about any CPU, you're cook'en!:( I hope you are OCed. Time to throttle back. If your stock, it's serious. Even stock Prescotts don't run that hot. Time to get that fan running. If you leave the side panel off, you can always use a house fan on it. :)

That seems to be your video card driver. Your boot screen should tell you manufacturered it and the model.

Here are a couple things to check:

1) go down this page to the close-up of the P4 heatsink that has a red circle on it. That's where the heatsink grabs onto the retention frame on the mobo. Check whether one of these has broken, because that would cause the heatsink to lift at that corner. Bad contact, bad thermal transfer, high temps. If that's happened, there are metal replacement frames here.

2) the retention frame may attach to the motherboard using four of these prong-lookin' things (a rendered picture with the general idea). See if you can confirm they're all still intact and holding.

I'm wrong, sis950 is your chipset, but that still doesn't tell who made your board.

and listen to mechBgon, he knows a lot more than me. (not that takes much;) )

My pc is completely taken apart right now. I'm currently at school at com tech class. Thank you mechBgon for your help. I'm gonna be ordering the frame since one of the clips snapped on mine. Also, my cpu had like.. NO goop on it, so my dad and I are going out to get some after hes off work. Thank you all for your help.. hopefully my computer will be running cooler after all this is done.

great... my computer stops at the start up. It gets to the point where it says that my memory is ok then brings up the options for setup boot network boot, that kind of stuff and freezes. If I hit delete for setup, it just stays at the screen and doesnt go to the setup... me and my dad are going to work on it tonight, i'm in comm tech class again on my trusty computer..neways, I'll check this forum as much as I can.

Your case is 167 degrees F? That's crazy! Also, your CPU could'nt be 32 degrees F. unless you live in the arctic or something. I think you need a new HSF, if nothing else.

my sensors must be screwed up then.. for some reason my room got really cold last night when I closed my case for the first time.. damn its cold... its weird how the temps are so high and low.

Are you reading these temperatures in the BIOS or with a program? Normally the case temp reads between 28-32C and the CPU temp will read from 32-42C. What you are listing as temps is way off the mark. I can tell you that if you feel the heat sink (carefully, in case it IS HOT!), and it feels just warm to the touch, then you are not running that hot. If you were running as hot as the temps you mentioned, the heat sink would burn you finger by just touching it.

Check the bios. You may have the options set incorrectly for the monitoring program, thus giving hokey readings.

Its impossible for the case temp to actually be higher than the CPU temp.

ok.. I fixed my cpu reading.. its reading 104 degrees f. the case for some reason is reading 167. cpu socket is 96. weird how the case is reading that high. The system wasnt that high when I went into bios.
