Most automatic cars won't allow you to turn the key until it's been put into Park! I've never turned off the engine in Drive, so I couldn't tell you what happens..
Don't know if it's bad or not, but I've done it a few times. Drove a standard for 10 yrs and now that I got an automatic, dang that's a hard habit to kick. Still got that left foot looking for the clutch too.
Well, in my car you can turn it off in D, but not take out your key.
It's not a problem so long as you ar e not moving. If you are moving it's bad for engine and tranny.
nothing happens but the key won't come out till you get into Park. My mom did that once and was wondering why the key won't come out so she blamed the car! I went and looked and the car was in D.
