Is it bad to launch a truck from 4 wheel low?

My friend has a 1999 Chevy 1500 with a 5.3L vortec, he wants to know if it's a bad idea to launch in a race from the 4 wheel low setting. Our school is doing 100Ft races tommorow (small, I know, but don't ask me). Is it a bad thing to do?

I don't see why it would matter.

It'd prolly be bad for the engine if anything, since you'll redline almost instantly.. lol

He'd almost want to launch in second so that you didn't spin as bad. A hundred feet is ... that's just stupid. Edit - Video anyways, just for the hilarity factor? 😀

<Standard Don't Do This Disclaimer> Go find some asphalt and practice your launches 😀 </SDDTD>

Haha, I doubt that 5.3L would spin the tires at all in 4WD.

4 wheel low?
He certainly wouldn't win, 4LOW is super creeping slow!
Not much of a race if he's pushing 6K RPMs @ 0.48 MPH!

What he said. 4 wheel low is geared for crawling speed. It wouldn't be much of a race, although it might be fun to watch the engine blow.

Yes he should. After that he should leave it there and drive it around on the street all day.

Post back and tell us how much it cost him to get his drive train fixed.
