Is it bad to have a power supply thats too big?

That I know of having a big PSU will not hurt anything. It just will not supply the max power it is capable of

You are better off buying one that is suited to your needs. Buying one that is capable of much more than you will be using may mean that it is upgradeproof, but it might use a lot more power, be a lot louder and be a real annoying thing to have.

I say get a bigger one, to be on the safe side. It can't hurt, and the noise shouldn't be too much louder. If you have a bigger than needed psu, then you'll know your not gonna put a strain on it, so you won't have to worry about it in the long run. Plus you won't have to worry about maxing out one that is suitable, because if you do, it can cause stability issues. Just my 2cents

Yeh, disregard what I said before. Having heard what these two have had to say, I would probably agree with that. If you can afford it that is..

A high-powered PSU that's only supplying, say, 35% of its rated power might not be as efficient as a lower-powered one that's supplying, say, 65%, so it might use a bit more electricity on average, but otherwise, it's no problem at all.
