Is it bad to exercise when you're sick?

I'm just coming off a cold/flu...I'm much better, but I cough a little and have a tiny case of the sniffles.

Should I wait until I'm completely better to exercise? If I do exercise, I'm not risking getting sick again, right?

It depends on the illness.

You wouldn't risk getting sick, but doing permanent heart/lung damage....again, depending on the illness.

Just be careful of weakening your immune system more and causing a secondary sinus or lung infection. You can get back to it, but ease back into it. Don't go nuts.

Just take it kinda easy and you'll be fine. The general rule of thumb is that if your cold is from the neck up, you're OK to work out. If you've got crap in your chest, you should take it easy. Working out a few times per week will actually boost your immune system whereas working out every day will supress it.

Hmm.....I wasn't deathly ill. It lasted about 3 days. First day had lots of body ache. Had a nagging cough. I took some medicine for the body ache and some cough syrup the next day.

I'm going to play some basketball, so I'll just slack off on defense :p
