If you don't want co-workers and be stuck in a closet doing checklists on excel, and get underpaid, it's the perfect job for you.

Dollars per hours worked is horrible. Plus it's REALLY REALLY BORING.

It's boring, tedious work... But it does pay half decently.

I was going to do it.. more risk assessment type work.. but the long hours, endless technical findings reports and being in a different state every other week just didn't appeal to me. One of my best friends does it for a pretty major firm and all he does is complain about writing reports that no one reads (clients have the same problems on next audit) anyway. His job satisfaction is quite low..

I do it. I hate it. It just isn't for me, so take my words with a grain of salt. I find the work tedious and silly. The process of auditing is too formal and the end results are generally useless and require way too much formal writing of bullshit. People don't like dealing with you and they would rather you just leave them alone. It's not just SOX that sucks, it's the whole IT Audit process. The pay is ok, not great, but not terrible.
Some people seem to like it though, so your YMMV.

I'm an IT Auditor also. It pretty much sucks. Imagine yourself w/ 1 yr experience and telling these Engineers w/ 10+ years of experience what they can and cant do because of an internal control everyone needs to follow. You're being paid to be hated.
OP, since you're in accounting why not be an internal auditor and go the financial auditing route?
