Is it alright to start a charcoal fire with rubbing alcohol?

Will it create a fireball when lit? I'm not worried about it getting into the food since it all burns away anyway.

I need serious responses. I don't know if I'll have any lighter fluid on hand. If all else fails, I can do the newspaper thing, but I'm a lazy guy.

Shouldn't be a problem. If there is a fireball it should burn away quickly

uhm. why don't you try and let us know OK?

i concur, make a video actually, and use plenty of rubbing alcohol, lots and lots
/me dunks PsychoticIdiot into a pool of rubbing alcohol

2 week ago i used goldschlager, nice fireball - but burned out too quickly

next i used mineral spirits (paint thinner) it worked GREAT, just like lighter fluid - but i didn't have enough to get the coals going

i ended up using RC fuel (25% nitro) - helluva fireball, took about 3 douse-and-lights before the coals were goin good

rubbing alcohol won't work well because it evaporates and burns off very quickly

go to target and get one of those charcoal chimneys for 7 bucks
no flamable liquids needed, 2 sheets of newspaper...works GREAT

yeah those chimneys are great. you can also add charcoal to the grill if needed.

Another vote for the chimney. I don't think you'll get a fireball with thye alcohol, but I doubt it will burn long or hot enough.
