Is it against the law to grow produce and sell it?

In a stand on the corner?

Paintings? What if I wanted to make arts & crafts and sell them on the corner?

Growing flowers and selling them on Mother's day on the side of the road? Is that illegal?

How about if I decided to grow marijuana and sell the dried flowers?

Discuss.

😉

I've never seen any cops stopped at those kinds of places, so I'm going to have to say that either it's legal, or no one cares.

Yeah..I've always kinda wondered..

Is it perhaps technically against the law.. because you're evading paying taxes? That's the only thing I can think of.

If you can grow some produce, or make some home-made holiday crafts and make some money, nobody is going to stop you. Maybe theres an apple shortage in your area. Is it your fault that there is a demand for apples? You're just supplying the demand that is already there.

Is that so bad? Should you be labeled a criminal for that? You can replace apples with anything. Just thought it was an interesting thought.

if you grow it on you own land and pay the sales and income tax since its technically farming you can save a ton of money on property taxes.

Your last question begs the question of going afoul of some very serious felonies.

LOL, that's exactly my point though.. It's a FELONY. :Q Is it really any worse than growing produce and selling it?

How about if I was growing tobacco & rolling my own? Is that against the law?

Ooh, here's one.. what if I've got some psilocybe mushrooms growing in my yard because I live in the Pacific Northwest?!

I could be teh criminal and I may not even know it!:roll::shocked:

Christ.

The only way I wouldn't hook you up was if the law was completely obliterated. Even if it was decriminalized to a lower misdemeanor I'd still proceed.

Okay, it depends on the street-corner. In many areas, there is strict zoning, so you will be arrested for operating a business in a non-business zone, and fined, probably (no jail). Back on the farm in Ohio it was perfectly legal to set up a stand on the farm and sell stuff, but if you lived in town, you couldn't set up a stand in the front yard - on a regular basis, anyway. The neighbors would complain. If you could keep your neighbors happy, then you were fine.

Larger towns/cities have stricter rules. Street corner vendors must be licensed, and so on.

Second, many businesses need licenses. That varies with the area and with the type of business and the products you are selling.

Third, you DO need to pay taxes on your income, and selling stuff is income. If you sell a few things, nobody cares, but it is illegal (in the strict tax code sense). Some people get lucky and don't get caught, but do you want to count on luck? If you're running something that looks like a business, you'd better keep records and pay taxes.

I was a street-corner musician for a good while, and you gotta scope out your corner carefully, and keep an eye out for the law, and be careful about those "donations". I never made enough to need to pay taxes or keep records, but I did eat from time to time - that was the goal. Sleeping in parks/parking lots was a lot more likely to get me arrested or escorted out of town.

Basically what I figured.

I see vans parked around here all the time.. in empty lots, they park and get all their rugs or decorative flags out.. and hang them over the fences or on lines they've put up for everyone to see.

It's always annoyed me that most people do not see what they are doing as a problem, yet if I want to provide a service to people by growing cannabis, it is villainized and hardcore-criminalized.

I can see the differences between produce and cannbis, don't get me wrong.. but in my opinion, the differences are magnified to such a great degree in our society.. they make them out to be a much bigger deal than it really is.

Curious though, is it technically against the law to grow your own tobacco and make your own cigarettes? I'd imagine not, as long as you aren't selling them right?

That makes me angry. Who gave anybody the right to tell me that I can get high on nicotine but not THC?

What a fscking crock of sh!t. It is interesting that so many in the other pot thread realize there is no logic when it comes to cannabis being illegal. How long is it going to be before those generations get a chance to be in office?
