is it hard drive style so that i can just copy and paste whole directories to the zune drive, or is it some proprietary format/method that requires a driver/software?

thanks

i'm talking about the software that comes with the zune, not the zune software found online just for vista

thanks

As far as I know, you have to use the Zune software to put anything on a Zune. You can't use the Zune as a usb hard drive.

There is no alternative software for Zune, and the Zune hasn't even been closed to being hacked. So you could put Rockbox on it. I think the unoffical scene word is "won't happen" I know they said the iPhone wasn't going to be hackable either, and it got hacked quick. But, the Zune has been out for a few years and the hack progression seems to be hovering around zero.

Not to say it won't ever be done, we might be able to use 3rd party software one day who knows? But I sure wouldn't hold my breath for it.

I actually like the Zune software. It has a nice interface that is very easy to use, doesn't slow down my computer at all, only runs when I tell it to, and does everything quickly (syncing, etc). So, it's not totally bloat free, but I think it's great.

This is coming from someone who hated touching iTunes, which is boring and slow (bloat).

I don't mind it, but I don't own a Zune my GF does. I just hate having to have to use only oner program to load her Zune. Choices are never a bad thing, even with an iPod you got 4rd party choices. What I don't get is, she bought the Zune MS made their money off her, why not let her use Winamp or a program of her choice to copy music to it? I like iTunes better than the Zune software, but I'm a Coverflow whore so... 🙂

I'm in agreeance; in general I dont mind the Zune software but I'd rather manage devices like this independently.

Didnt iPods used to be this way a long time ago? I wonder what the reason for removing the ability to manage them 'externally' was.
