Is it a worthwile upgrade from a 2400+ to a A64 3200+?

I'm debating whether or not its worth it to upgrade my CPU mobo via the retail access deal....

I currently have;

2400+ (stock speed)
Soltek nforce2 mobo
512 PC2100

I would go to:

Athlon64 3200+ (newcastle)
Asus A8V Deluxe Mobo
1gb PC3200 (eventually)


Is this a worthwile $179 upgrade? I figure i can sell my current CPU/Mobo/HSF for around $100, so i would only be $80-100 out.....

depends how badly you need that 179 and what you do with your pc. its a lot faster.

Pretty much everything....

I run dual 17" LCD's, occational photoshop, occational games, lots of websurfing 🙂)), music.....

I've just been noticing that my system has been a little slower lately now that i have objectdock running 24/7....

Dude! Do you have the Soltek 75FRN2? I have it and a 1700+ Tbred-b that OCs to 2.2 @1.7v. I don't think I need to upgrade, but it still interests me. Bah..I should wait till pci-express.

Yep 75FRN2.

I've never bothered to OC, living in Florida my CPU Diode likes to hang around 60-70c

512mb of 2100DDR is a crutch even on that 2400+ setup, and it'll remain one on the A64 too. The sooner you can upgrade to the gig of 3200 with the A64 the better off you'll be. BTW, have you tried both hardware exceleration and software modes with object dock to see which performs better for you?
