Is it a big no no to pair an nForce4 ultra mobo with an ATI x1900xt?

I would think people would frown on nvidia if their boards aren't compatible with ati cards...

need suggestions.

thx

ATi cards in crossfire only work on ATi chipset and some intel and SLI only works on nforce.

however, if you're going witha single card, they're completely interchangable.

I've used several ATi cards on nVidia boards they run 100% stable.I currently run an X1800XT and I get no problems.nVidia doesn't limit ATi cards, but you cannot run crossfire because they use different methods...if ATi adopted and licensed SLI from nVidia then you would be albe to do SLI on ATI.

this is for single card

after I helped my friend configure his pc...I'm itching to upgrade as well 😀

right now I only have a 9600xt and my performance in UT2K4 is horrible...especially since I have a 2405fp running @ 1920x1200..I get like 10-15fps at best 🙁

I want to upgrade my mobo and GPU and there are WAY more nforce4 boards than radeon express 200 boards not to mention most of the ati based boards don't have as much feature...

however, I'm leaning ati because my HDTV card is ati and I hear nvidia cards have issues with it. I just want max compatibility but if I can mix and match the mobo with the GPU, I'm happier because I can pick a more feature rich mobo.

thx

The main benefit of SLI is providing an upgrade path in the future, where you can just add-on a card instead of replacing your existing one. And where did you hear that nvidia cards have issues?......

also SLI has been in development and production far longer than Crossfire has, and is thus more mature.

ok..um...I dunno if you read the whole thing but I said no SLI or crossfire....k, thx

I didn't say nvidia cards have issues, I said they don't play well with other ATI products like my HDTV card made by ATI.

I would say it's more that your HDTV card doesn't play well with nVidia cards (and some motherboards, and...), but nevermind that.

To answer the original question: they'll work fine together. Once upon a time there were stories floating around that nVidia cards got a slight speed boost with nForce chipsets, and were therefore a better choice, but I've never seen it substantiated.

If nvidia didn't make their nforce chipsets work with ati products, no one would have bought them back in nforce2 days. Because then you would have been forced to use one of those fx series cards.

um NO.
sli is good if you are getting both cards NOW.
the future upgrade path is a bunch of BS. the card will cost more than the latest solution due to lack of supply.
If you are going to do SLI get both cards now or don't do it.
