Is is possible to slap an Athlon xp in a socket A mobo

The BIOS needs to be able to recognize it as a palomino line (Athlon4, MP, XP), but other than that, there's nothing special that needs to be done. But without BIOS recognition, some features may or may not be functional. Certainly the built-in CPU temperature probe isn't going to work for one thing, that'll require entirely new motherboards, even the newest can't use that as far as I know.
 
Lord Evermore is right, but I'd do a search. There have been some MAJOR issues with XP on Abit KT7 and KT7A. I'd look around before u buy, and see if it will run on your KT7
