... am I seeing an alarming increase in the number of pop-up ads that appear when I go surfing? I can't seem to go to a web page without something coming up in another browser. :(

And no, I'm not just talking about X-10, either!

If you're worried, use Mozilla with the no-popup-windows tag in the config file. No pop-ups except on the sites you specify :)

I've noticed that there are a hell of a lot more then there used to be - Pop Up Killer works pretty good though.

It's not you. When a previously popup free site starts going to popups, it's sometimes the beginning of the end for that site. Case in point, Daily Radar was popup free for a while, then went to popups for the main page, then popups on every page. Then they closed down. With the cost of bandwidth, people are having a hard time keeping their "hobby sites" open. Take Penny-Arcade, they get so many hits on a basiclly free site (you can donate if you want, in fact I'd suggest it), they can't hardly afford the bandwitdh. I hope I never see the day when they cant afford to keep the site open.

I remember like 2 years ago I had IGN.com as my homepage, but then all of a sudden they started to use popups and I changed my homepage immediatly. They've survived for that long though. I really like IGN so I hope they don't die.
