Is Intel really that bad?

Then why is it that 99% of the mobo forum is all about compatible/errors/problems/Help!!! it wont boot... with AMD based Mobo's?

Just curious cuz i always had an intel and the only problems that i had were PEBMAC ( Problem Exists Between Monitor And Chair ).

I'm asking this ( not that it will make a difference ) in CASE and COO.. forum because i want a straight answer ( i'm thinking in a Fx-55 😉 ), and like i said i never had problems with my processors ( Pentium 133; Pentium 200 Pro; PII400 ; PIII550; PIV 1.7; PIV 2.8; PIV 3.0 HT ), and a really dont believe that SOME amd lovers could deliver those answers.

I'm going to give you the benefit of a doubt and assume this isn't a troll.

I've built two Intel and three AMD systems for my own personal use. I've never had major compatibility problems with any of them (in other words issues have always been resolved with an updated BIOS or something like that). I received one Athlon motherboard (an Epox Socket A) that was DOA. That's the only serious problem I've ever had.

I think the problems come from people using bad parts, not just the chip. A bad psu will bring any system down and crash. A bad motherboard will lock up with no reason.

I am a firm believer in "PEBMAC", as you call it.

THe reason all the posts are about amd problems is probably due to the fact that most people have amd instead of intel here, so less posts about intel are made.

Almost all the posts have nothing to do with AMD or Intel and everything to do with the chipsets surrounding AMD.

Has nothing to do with the CPU, EVERYTHING to do with the chipsets

Intel is not really that bad, I just believe you are overpaying for performance.
That and the fact that the new prescotts run even hotter than the A64's, I can't really see any reason to go with a P4. I've had no major problems with either platform in general, I've had problems with machines over the years based on either platform, so that's not something I can really even comment on. The only experience I had with a PERSONAL system bad was with a P4 1.8/EPoX combo... it was worthless, I loved seeing that mobo leave, the CPU was also a bit weak, but overclocked well to make up. I think the motherboard was the culprit but that system was the only system I did not have good luck with... (it was unstable and flakey)

If you did your research than you'd konw that A64 procs run much faster in terms of gaming and daily usage than P4s. They run cooler, and you get more power for your money (The FX55 beat the highest P4 EE in everything, and the P4 still costs like 200 bucks more).

This is a forum largely composed of system-builders and gamers. AMD chips have always done well in gaming, even more so with the A64; and AMD (and its pricing) have traditionally catered to builders much better than Intel. So it's no wonder there are a lot of AMD fanboys here. (I'm one myself.) But no, obviously Intel doesn't "suck." Its current batch of chips can hand the A64 its lunch in quite a few apps, just not gaming and office benchmarks. Plus, AMD's price advantage has virtually disappeared since the days of the Athlon XP, though there's still a small margin. [edit:] And a bigger one at the higher end since AMD's sizeable price drops in the past week or two.]

Anyhoo, Intel doesn't suck. Buy whatever chip will serve your needs better at a given price point. For me, I'm a gamer -- I'm in the market for an A64. If you want to edit video streams, get a P4. It's really that simple.

Ahh, but the FX-55 does outpower anything Intel has to offer in anything, which includes video editing, Photoshop, 3DSMax, etc. etc. I'm not a fanboy, everything I used to own were Intels, but Intel is beginning to lag behind. However, even if you bought an Intel the performance difference wouldn't really be noticeable enough to hit yourself on the head and say, "I shoulda got an AMD!" Many people still use Intels today, so.

I'm pretty sure the latest dual Opterons outperform their corresponding Xeons but correct me if I'm wrong cuz I'm not big on workstation PCs.

Lets try not to get into the technicalities of processor instruction suites. There is AT article comparing the performance of AMD v. Intel in almost every computing situation, and in almost every case, AMD dominates Intel. The 6xx series of Pentiums 4's really can't compete with AMD 64's. AMD processors have lower power requirements and lower temperatures, while Intel has the opposite.

I'm really not sure why this is, so I'm open to elaboration.

It doesn't matter who's king, it does matter that there is rabid competition. This keeps development on the cutting edge and keeps prices in check for us upgraders 😛

It's always a tennis match with AMD/Intel, ATI/Nvidia, Coke/Pepsi...just wait a while....

I was intel and then AMD and now intel again but if I were looking at the near future, AMD would be it for sure...

in blackinches' opinion the best cpu's are transmeta and via c3's!

that's why blackinches has an a64. blackinches has not had an intel system since a celeron 400mhz, because blackinches cannot afford an intel system.
