can i take hydrocodone and then take some additional ibuprofen for pain? I thought they're in different classes but just double checking.

Those are two different questions. Depends what you mean by "class"; sure, but it probably won't do much.

Read the labels and inserts provided. What do the contraindications and warnings say?

Hydrocodone is a much stronger pain killer than ibuprofen. If you still have pain after injesting any opiate, it's probably not going to go away.

Yes.

They're both analgesic.

They can be subdivided into non-narcotic analgesic and narcotic analgesic.

hydrocodone is a derivative of morphine ( i think) and ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin are cox-2 inhibitors (mild pain killers).

Usually drug companies package hydrocodone with acetaminophen, lets say about 5 mg hydrocodone to 500 mg of acetaminphen..... usually std. Lets them get away with the classification of the drug and DEA regulations.

Hydrocodone is a synthetic codeine (opiate as was mentioned).... ibuprofen is an analgesic and anti-imflammatory. Not the same class, in fact there is a combination of the two substances called VICOPROFEN.... which is similar to Vicodin but instead of acetiminophen it's ibuprofen instead, I'm not sure how you get hydrocodone by itself, because it is dispensed in pharmacys in combination with other medications. If its Vicodin you are using, its a bit of overkill, as there is already Tylenol in Vicodin. If that's the case have yer doctor write it for vicoprofen if you can't handle the tylenol or it isn't working for you.

Anyhooo pharmacy student, and current pharmacy tech so don't ask me about the mechanisms cuz I'd draw a nice big question mark for ya.
