Is Hitachi Telling Lies???

Last week I purchased 2 Hitachi Deskstar 3.5 inch 3TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gbps 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drives and ran CrystalDiskInfo and it says that both of the drives only have 32MB of cache so I contacted Hitachi. Below is my email and their response-

I ordered 2 Hitachi Deskstar 3.5 inch 3TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gbps 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drives from amazon.com. It specifically states on Amazon and on the box they came in that they have a 64MB Cache but now that I have installed them I see that they only have a 32MB Cache. This is unacceptable and I want you to replace them with the correct ones. One of the reviewers on Amazon states that they found the same problem with their hard drive as well. Please let me know how Hitachi plans to fix this problem.
Thank you.

Dear Cody

Thank you for contacting the Hitachi GST Technical Support Center.

The drives have 64 mb cache but there is currently no software that can accurately display the real cache of those drives.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Why can software like CrystalDiskInfo display the correct cache on every hard drive but theirs? I think they are not being honest about this. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas on how to really know if it has 64MB of cache.

Thanks

Your problem is with CrystalDiskInfo. Hitachi is correct. Bottom line, . . . no one is lying.

I'm surprised they bothered to reply at all with the outright aggression, accusations, and demands right from the start.

Hitachi has no reason to lie about something that is so easily verified - The first person that pulls a PCB off that drive & sees only 32 MB of cache would spread the word & that would be the end of the deception.

Software of this type is just interpreting values reported by the drive, it's not actually physically inspecting the drive. If a newer model comes out that the software doesn't know about it's not going to be accurate.
